I've just started having a problem on DU,

and wondered if anyone else has seen something similar.

If I go to reply to a message... I don't get the "hand" and I can't reply to that message. It's not a replyable "link" for me, IOW. I CAN reply to the thread by hitting "reply" at the end of all the messages. That still works.

I managed to reply to one message (maybe two messages) all day. None of the others I wanted to reply to, even those who have replied to a message of mine, have worked, however. I'm about to give it up for the day and go to bed. I've been so busy all week, and today has just been a continuation of that... I thought at one point it was the Universe's way of helping me avoid making a "mistake" (gryn).

But then I wondered if anyone else was having the same issue. Understand, if you reply, I probably won't be able to answer you (gryn). Tomorrow, I'm going to tear down my machine and do a thorough clean off of programs/apps and browser add-ons, as well as an intensive check for any malware that games might have slipped on via ads. I use IOBIT everyday, so normally I don't have any issues. It keeps my system pretty darned clean and up to date. But it never hurts to do an intensive scan every so often.

I'm also on the search for a good desktop email program, other than Thunderbird, which has a calendar app, and can import my email/folder setup from an existing webmail account. Thunderbird would fit the bill great, IF it could connect reliably to my Spectrum webmail (it can't). I'm open to suggestions, if you have a favorite!

Thanks, you guys! I'm off to bed, now! Think I'll binge Manifest again!

but, alas, nothing is perfect. Probably has to do with it being mostly volunteer. Suggestions for an equivalent Android mail client are always appreciated.

My problem with DU has been the occasional "403 forbidden" notice on Opera. I think it's Opera's problem since when it happens it opens just fine in Firefox and Brave. Haven't bothered to fool around with other browsers and it's rare enough to not bother me too much.

I am convinced the number of kids playing with coding without knowing old-time coding rules are the problem. Complexity will one day kill us all simply because someone forgot something.

So I'll dig into my big system tomorrow, since the problem is probably there. I miss the old days when we could backdoor windows and really work with the OS. But then I'm old, I even long for the old DOS days where you really had some control. I agree about some of the shortcuts that get taken today, but just as bad... If not worse, are the cases of bloatware.

Clear cache, data, etc. on your browser. In effect, reset it. Sounds like it got flakey or that some JavaScript is hanging around that shouldn't.

Hope you're not bitcoin mining for someone out there.

Thunderbird should connect with any IMAP server ( highly recommended to use IMAP). I don't know about spectrum email servers. Comcast and Apple have been very steady. Spectrum used to be Verizon, IIRC ( Frontier somewhere in between?). I never tried though I am actually on spectrum cellular (aka Verizon). Never used any other of their services.

Mail setup, when it's not magically done behind your back, can be complex, regarding SSL. TBird just made some major changes, so I might try it again.

Pop server doesn't, altho they are both set up according to spectrums help pages. Its what makes it so strange. But spectrum uses something like five different .names. Everything from .spectrum to .rr.... And a whole bunch in between. I finally came to the conclusion that was the reason mail was so slow even on their own webmail server. Wouldn't be a big deal but I've goqt invoices and license numbers and medical emails I e saved for years I don't want to lose... And I just switched from spectrum to ATT and direct TV.

To be safe.

Long ago I recall using fetchmail from the commandline to get mail off a server and archive it. YMMV.

No doubt, the many transitions that spectrum has made have caused confusion. My ex went through them all, starting with Verizon.

Good luck.
