Hi Tablet experts!

My Samsung Tab A has all of a sudden decided it can't authenticate connection to my WiFi at home. It did yesterday and it recognized the WiFi at the local coffee shop today.
The tablet only suggests I restart my router but I don't understand why, the tablet gives me the little WiFi symbol but when I try to access a web site it says I don't have an internet connection. Any ideas? Should I restart the router? I use streaming for my TV and it works fine, so I know I have internet. I'm stumped! Any suggestions?

Sometimes, I have to retype the wireless password. (So why do they forget it?)

Other times, I go to airplane mode and immediately right back. I did that a damn lot when I was on cellular hot spot.

Perhaps there’s an app available to you that can check what’s going on with your wifi.

My wifi has two bands, and I never use the slower one. Is the tablet confused by this?

That’s all I can offer from my experience.

Good luck.

While you're at it, do a hard shutdown of the tablet and restart that too. May be all that is needed to reset the wifi adapter.

If you have the user name and password, better to restart router via the web interface. The restart command is usually pretty easy to find.

Does make it sound like it is the router connect to the internet that is broken and not the tablet connection to the router. If you have a computer or another tablet that connects to the internet via the same router, see if you can access a website using it. If there isn't a connection on the alternate device, rebooting the router and maybe the modem (if separate) is a first step.

serves wired and wireless connections to your devices. It is possible that your modem dropped its connection to your provider but that won't kill the wireless connection that the router has to your devices. However they will have no connection the internet. Reboot the modem. (Power it off for 30 seconds to a minute then power it back on

That did the trick and your explanation of how the set up works cleared things up in my head. It worked!
