Where's the Damned Cursor!?!?!?!?
This may be a bug with DU, or a problem with my computer... or failing eyesight.
I keep "losing" my cursor. Right now, it is a straight line and I can see it just fine. But if I move my mouse, it disappears. I can see it if I move out of this text window, but if I want to edit something in this window and try to reposition the cursor, I can't see it.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(121,219 posts)cursors can disappear, depending on what kind of computer you have. If you have a wired mouse, check the cable; otherwise, check your keyboard or trackpad settings. I don't think it's DU.

(18,179 posts)Maybe flat battery.
Other than that, you can increase the cursor size in Windows. Go into settings / Accessibility and have a play around there.
Edit to add: It could also be a tiny bit of dirt in the laser light on the bottom. Blow out with canned compressed air.

(377 posts)If the following mirrors your symptoms....
When you first turn on your computer your mouse cursor works perfectly. As you continue to use your computer the mouse cursor eventually begins to have the problems you describe. After another restart it works fine....for a while.
If that is what you're seeing its likely your system is running on an inadequate amount of system memory or you have one or more applications running that are using too much system memory.
Solutions. Other than restarting your computer more frequently you might check into a memory upgrade or see if you can identify if one or more applications are consuming system memory. Typically its those applications that are auto starting. Usually visible on the right side of the taskbar.

(60,761 posts)Disappeared for a while a few days ago, now it's gone again. The cursor controlled by the mouse is fine, but there is no text cursor in the box when I'm typing. Kind of hard to see where I'm at if I want to move it.

(22,566 posts)the first place to look would be:
1) In the Windows search bar, type Themes and related settings, then go to that Settings page.
2) On the Themes screen, click the item that says Mouse cursor
3) A window will pop up. Click the Pointer options tab.
4) Make sure the Hide pointer while typing box is unchecked.
If that doesn't help, at least we eliminated it as a possibility.

(60,761 posts)Will be on an upgraded system in a few weeks, with Win 11. Maybe that will do it.

(6,278 posts)I changed it to a size 4. I can't miss it now. And it's showing up on my typing screen - it's so big! I love it.
I will keep EarlG's message in mind that it might be a memory issue. I do tend to have about 30 windows open sometimes, and I will see if something else that I'm running is eating my memory. I have a company laptop, so increasing memory is unlikely, but rebooting... probably something I should do more often.
