Is there any way I can convert a color photograph from 40 years ago into a computer image?
I want to preserve it and also send it to DU as it is a photo of my daughter and me wearing Carter/Mondale buttons at a rally at her college. thanks!

(681 posts)I have used apps like TurboScan, which takes three photos and optimizes them automatically. Then you can choose the output format, whether jpg or PDF or others. Search your phone for "scan" to see if it's already a function of one of the apps.
However, in a pinch, you can take a picture of the photograph, holding the camera still and making sure the light is even, and the flash is turned off.

(13,540 posts)The image will already be small enough to post, and modern phone cameras cover up a multitude of user sins.
Main precaution is to use flat light so no reflections. (and no shadows from your body and phone)
Use the phone's image editor to straighten things (or shoot over until you get "pitch and yaw" right.)

And the host will ask to upload from your camera roll.
