Related: About this forumCan't get Adobe Type 1 fonts to load in Mountain Lion (OS 10.8). . .
I'm attempting to load Adobe Type 1 fonts on a new Mac with OS 10.8.1.
On my old machine (Mac Pro with 10.5.8), Suitcase Fusion 12.1.7 ran fine the last four years, and easily handled all of my fonts (I have several thousand).
I upgraded to Suitcase Fusion 4 this morning, ran my fonts through Font Doctor, and found that many of them are "incompatible with this OS." But its not all of them, and in many cases half a family has been approved but the rest won't load. And the family was all purchased at the same time, so it's not like I have different versions mixed in the folders.
I've tried to load them manually without using Font Doctor but no go. Using Goudy Oldstyle as my test font, I can only get 6 faces out of a total family of 15 to load.
I tried to load them using Font Book, but no go either. Only 4 fonts will load there.
Anyone know anything about this incompatibility issue?

(31,801 posts)no answer for you so I'll have to do some digging. I have a lot of Adobe Type 1 fonts as well, many from the early to mid 1990s. I've been wondering as to the length of their shelf life.
On edit: The Dummies Books say Type 1 fonts are compatible: http://books.google.com/books?id=8JmRkwTrGuMC&pg=PT138&lpg=PT138&dq=mountain+lion+adobe+type+1+fonts&source=bl&ots=F-ZOQYlNKd&sig=n-ivqugRp13MM2v4p_Ue2W2opek&hl=en#v=onepage&q=mountain%20lion%20adobe%20type%201%20fonts&f=false
Maybe the problem is with Suitcase and Font Doctor?

(15,145 posts)I'm beginning to suspect that perhaps there's a problem with the computer itself.
Originally, I thought it might be Font Doctor, but if it was just the Extensis projects then the fonts should load in Font Book, the Mountain Lion application. I can't get more than 4 of the 15 Goudy faces to load there.
And why is it accepting some of the faces and not the others. The entire family was purchased at the same time (about the same time as you got yours), and I de-archived them all from the CDs I burned years ago, to ensure I have uncorrupted files. (The originals came on floppy discs.) Like you, I worry about the shelf life of these old fonts, but with so many of us having so much money invested in Type 1 technologies I can't imagine the manufacturers would make them obsolete without providing some means to upgrade them.
I've sent emails to Extensis so I hope to have some answers Tuesday morning when they return from the weekend. Fortunately, my old machine still works, so I'm able to hobble along for now. I'll update this with what I learn this week.
Thanks for your help, Auggie. The link to the Dummies Book will prove useful in my discussions with Extensis and Apple this week.

(20,886 posts)I have found going back to the original font from original disk generally works. Apparently they get corrupted somehow when moving from one system or one computer to another. I've also gotten copies from a friend and that seems to work. I've done the same for her on occasion. So, you might try that.
Also, Adobe Illustrator is a factor. Fonts work in InDesign, but won't in Illustrator. The same technique as above generally works.
Not a guaranteed solution for you, but worth a try.

Thanks for your input, NV Whino. I'll check with Extensis and Apple to see if the Adobe CS programs pose any problem in Mountain Lion. I'll update this with what I learn this week.
