trying to get access to your files in order to steal from you or to get you to give them a credit card number over the phone to buy some bogus security package.

What kind of problem are you having, have you forgotten your password?

Or are strangers phoning you up claiming your computer is under attack and they need access to it to fix it for you?

on this browser without contacting this number for further information. I call and it's a scam......they're scanning my computer right in front of my eyes.....all my files everything. Then they go to some firewall part on my computer and say oh my your firewall is letting everything in. For the price of 199.00 we will clean up your computer and safeguard it for the life of the computer.....blah,blah,blah....my eyes glaze over and say I think I'll just take it to my local Mac guys and get it fixed. He almost starts yelling at me as how much more that would cost me......I say thanks, but no thanks, I'll stay local. They were in Glendale CA. Although it sounded like a call center, and sorry to say in India. I feel so much better NOT signing up. Whew.

pretty sure they are a spin off of the guys claiming to be from Microsft tech support.

I fell for this scam this summer. Was having trouble with my cable modem and googled the number for Comcast Tech Support. First hit was a phone number that claimed to be Comcast but wasn't Comcast at all. Same crazy story, foreign computers are attacks my computer.

I actually downloaded the app they told me to download so they could "check" my computer. I gave them a credit card for $99.00 worth of "security software". Then they said what I really needed was a $500.00 suite. That's when I finally woke up to what was going on.

Canceled my credit card, and called Apple tech support the next morning. Even though my computer is 5 years old, the guy was great and waived the support call fee. He helped me get rid of all traces of software I downloaded and helped make my computer more secure.
