If you're not low on disk space, you probably don't need to worry about it.

If an installation failed and left a temp file behind, it will usually be where you won't miss seeing it. I've been using Macs for years, and have hardly ever run into a problem with temp files.

and never really thought about "cleaning" up disk space until our lunch group was talking about it. Most just have PC's..... thanks again.

I found that if things slow down to empty the cache files.

and a great all round maintenance tool. There's lot's of little bits and pieces OS X leaves lying around. Just go to automation after the disk checks. I find caches should be cleared once in a while. BTW, if you select 'Repair Permissions', it will take a while.

BTW, your Mac may feel slower for a while after clearing the caches - the caches get rebuilt. Then OSX should feel a nice bit zippier. If you rebuild the spotlight index, that will take some time to be rebuilt, but what you'll get is an up to date search, without remnants of files that are long gone. And, unlike Windows Registry cleaners, rebuilt from scratch actually works
