(31,798 posts)My Mac guru has cautioned me about an upgrade to my older Mac from High Sierra ... things like having to upgrade my entire Office Suite or losing essentially all my data. If you do upgrade to Mojave be sure to have adequate backup(s) in place. I have an iMac from late 2013. Yeah, I know its old. Just waiting for Apple to update the entire line.

(6,262 posts)I don't "need" what it offers. Will wait longer and continue updating security updates for High Sierra until and unless that no longer works.
The thought of needing to upgrade various layout and other programs gives me the hives. Losing stuff in transit leads to heebie-jeebies, which may be solvable, but which also irritates me beyond belief.

(48,797 posts)I finally gave up last year and got a new iMac with High Sierra and hope to stay there for as long as I can.
Of course, I was happy with my 2010 made Tiger (or was it Leopard?) but eventually could not upgrade my browser that my financial institutions told me I had to, and other programs so I caved it.

(5,486 posts)so I am not upgrading to Mojave. My Mac laptop is over 5 years old but I have no need to upgrade or replace. Thankfully I had a backup with my photos to restore them but I miss the original slideshow with music I used to enjoy with my nature and wildlife pics that I had with the previous version.

(8,447 posts)In the past anyway,
1. I bought a new external drive. My last purchase 2 years ago was a 1-terabyte USB drive, no power cord needed for about $ 80.
2. I used Carbon Copy Cloner for maximum safety.
This will take a while.
