I am impatient, never held it down long enough. Is it plugged in? How much is it charged? I use 10 foot cords.

Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.

If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.

Good luck!!!!

Simultaneously hold the Home button and the power button for ten or mor seconds until it reboots.

If it is a really new iPad, you have to hold the bottom volume button and the power button for the same amount of time.

on your hands versus the screen is an issue.

Similarly, you might try cleaning your screen with a dry cloth.

The ones which replace phone batteries will probably do as good as an authorized Apple place -- if there is no authorized Apple repair place nearby.

Ask them to open it up. Check for dirt. Then close it.
