Available on all iPhone 14 models, the innovative technology enables users to message with emergency services while outside of cellular and Wi-Fi coverage. Additionally, if users want to reassure friends and family of their whereabouts while traveling off the grid, they can now open the Find My app and share their location via satellite. Emergency SOS via satellite is available in the US and Canada starting today, November 15, and will come to France, Germany, Ireland, and the UK in December.

I've had an emergency beacon for 12 years, I had to use it once. I was on a hike in a no-service area. Guy had a heart attack. He survived. It took emergency service 50 minutes to get to us.... a state ranger on foot. Then time to get rescue equipment.

in temperatures somewhat above 32 F.
All elderly people should have a beacon or cell phone.
Around 9 pm or so, someone heard her. Very fortunate.

A rider's bike went off the road. She seemed to have a broken leg. It took 40 minutes to reach town and another 25 minutes to get the rescue service on site.
Beacon might have shaved off an hour which would have been important in a different kind of emergency.

with in an hour you have a chance. Thank god it was "only" her leg.
