obamacare: a fact or two

********************This is Posted in the Barack Obama Group****************************

http://theobamadiary.com/2013/07/08/obamacare-a-fact-or-two/

The mission of the Barack Obama Group is to discuss information and news about the life, career, accomplishments, and presidency of Barack Obama; to provide a haven for those members of Democratic Underground who support the president and his policies; to discuss President Obama's policy positions, speeches, interviews, and other public appearances; to discuss President Obama's political campaigns; and to discuss the causes which President Obama has championed, including health care reform and ending the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Those who have a generally negative view of President Obama and his administration, support his defeat in the 2012 presidential election (in primaries or the general election), or who are generally supportive of those who do, are not welcome in the Barack Obama Group.

Start in the right direction. I have enjoyed medical insurance through collective bargaining over the years but know this needs to be universal. It has taken a long time but the fruits are yet to be picked. When I hear young folks say they can't afford to pay an insurance premium I would like to inform them Social security receipts get on the average of $1200 a month and out of that they pay $104 a month for Medicare. It can be done.

I hope this post is widely read and understood on DU so we can respond to the naysayers who see little or no good in the legislation or spout completely false information about the ACA. Unfortunately I have seen some of that right here on DU where I think we would be more motivated to get the facts straight. It will be interesting to see how many views and recs your post receives.

There's only one place I feel completely welcome and respected as a human being: the doctors of the medical group at the local hospital. Most of the non-medical staff as well. Even when I show up as usual in a Barack Obama tee shirt. Especially when it has to do with the ACA. Those people have brains and hearts and know what the ACA (via President Obama) can do to promote their main concern - healthcare. I wouldn't take my chances with the top hospital staff, but the medical folks seem all for it. It's enough to turn me into a hypochondriac just for the strokes. I try not to strut too much marching down those halls, but I do hold my head high and grin a lot.

except maybe a tiny bit for my efforts on the President's behalf. That broad grin and happy heart mostly shows my deep admiration and appreciation for the man who made it possible. Sometimes when I just stop and think about what he's done on our behalf and with our support of course, which no other human being in AMERICA has accomplished before, I have to stop and try to let it all sink in. True enough, we still have miles to go before we sleep. But what progress I've seen these last few years! President Obama has truly been the key. I'd give him credit for that no matter what, and I expect to see much more progress before I board that train for the next world.

I am not sure if they were this DFA group, but they were awesome. Like all of us, they said single payer is what we should have, but that the ACA is a good first step and will save tens of thoussnds of lives each year.

It will give my brother health insurance for the first time in his adult life. He will no longer be denied because of his pre-existing condition. That is huge to me.
