(38,951 posts)I'm far to the left of Obama on many issues. I'm an extreme pacifist, environmentalist, and believer in entirely transparent government (no NSA, CIA, no secret projects at all...), but I do think Obama is a competent man for the job.
I had no such confidence in Reagan or either Bush.
Romney as President would have been a nightmare. Like Bush & Son, Romney has got some terrible demons driving him.
Reagan was a little different. Behind his mask of affability Reagan was a mean, incurious and empty man. He was an easily manipulated tool.
What lack of respect I have for Obama and his policies is the same lack of respect I have for the U.S.A. in general. Like it or not, Obama well represents what the U.S.A. is about.
It was random chance I was born in the U.S.A. and I do what I can to make the world a better place. As a U.S. citizen I make do with what leverage I've got.
I voted for Obama both times without hesitation and I think he's done a remarkable job cleaning up after Bush.
Whatever my misgivings, it's good to have a genuine President.
Thanks for the photos.

(34,582 posts)Living in Texas, the pure joy of just standing in the rain is a thrill. I come from Ohio, where rain isn't an issue. Some of my native Texas coworkers have seen me just standing outside, enjoying the rain. They thought something was wrong with me. Had a mud puddle been present, I would have jumped in it.
On edit: the pres is from Chi-town- he gets it.
