Obamacare Explained By An Insurance Industry Insider

If voters knew the ugly truth about how “Big Health Insurance” really works, they would be horrified at the attempts of Congress to repeal the Affordable Care Act AKA Obamacare.

SNIP

The big health insurance gravy train is leaving the station

Before the Affordable Care Act, the gravy train did not stop with providers — the green gravy that is premium dollars was liberally spread over insurance companies too, leading to things like United Health Care’s Stephen Helmsley taking home nearly a $1 billion salary during one year that I worked for them. How could that be possible, you ask? Oh, quite simple. UHG simply cut a few costs, is all. But thanks to Obamacare, the gravy train is leaving the station.

SNIP

Why the GOP wants to repeal the Affordable Care Act

Now, in case you’ve been asleep for the last 30 years, one of our political parties caters to rich people. The Republicans like nothing better than giving the wealthy a big wet kiss. So the relationship between the GOP and doctors, hospitals, Big Pharma, and medical-device manufacturers was love at first sight. Their kind of people. And, if you had not noticed, the Republicans like nothing better than enabling their rich pals to get richer, no matter what. For that reason — plus their ideological belief that government can’t do anything right– the Republicans want the gravy train “Good-Times Express” to keep on rolling.

Enter the Affordable Care Act. Instead of the old “fee for service” model — the one that converted procedures into dollar signs — the ACA is based on a “fee for wellness” model. Under that system, doctors and hospitals get paid a certain amount for keeping the patient well. Under the ACA, the incentives are all going the other way, encouraging your doctor to keep you well. If you get sick, your doctor does not get rewarded for that with extra dough. Instead, the best option for your hospital or doctor is keeping you well.

SNIP

As the Affordable Care Act grows more popular, the GOP will rue the day

Starting in October, the tangible benefits to the vast majority of the ACA will become apparent. Lifetime maximums; denying coverage to people with pre-existing conditions; cancelling coverage to avoid costly payouts; spending premium dollars on CEO salaries and advertising instead of on patient care … all of that is gone. Thank you, President Obama, for pushing this through.

can't believe it's true. "repeal" wah "repeal: "repeal" ad nauseum..

Instead of Obamacare causing the gop to rule the day.. they are going to "rue the day".. They tried their damnest to stop it. One very Good Important thing came out of the 111th Congress!

This article is great, she.. it lays out all the gory horrible details of why the insurance companies and gops-but I repeat myself, have been fighting tooth and nail to stop Obamacare at all costs. It's been a beautiful thing to see them lose so big. And, such poor losers. tsk tsk tsk.

she October 1st here we come.

for private insurers were guaranteed equal pay plus benefit to work as federal paperwork folks.

In other words, they were going to end up in UHC as time wore on. Doing the same as those who work for Medicare.

Yes, private insurers could see the writing on the wall, it was all set to go in by increments. They'd be forced out of business, so they fought like hell.

This could have gone easy without GOP truculence. These guys need to be evicted from office in 2014, the sooner the better!

Stunned Teabaggers learn Obamacare is Constitutional according to the SCOTUS:

Supreme Court upholds Obamacare Individual Mandate as a Tax

Published on Jun 28, 2012

The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the individual health-insurance mandate that is at the heart of President Obama's landmark health-care law, saying the mandate is permissible under Congress's taxing authority.

The potentially game-changing, election-year decision — a major victory for the White House less than five months before the November elections --will help redefine the power of the national government and affect the health-care choices of millions of Americans.

Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. sided with the majority in voting to uphold the law, Obama's signature domestic initiative.

Passage of the legislation by the Democratic-controlled Congress in 2010 capped decades of efforts to implement a national program of health care. The legislation is expected to eventually extend health-care coverage to more than 30 million Americans who currently lack it.

But Obama, Biden and staff applauded the news:

Obama explained it on television:

The fact the corporations invested so much trying to put Obama out of office shows that he is not a corporate tool. If one takes a moment to consider the facts with an open mind. Just sayin'

5. I talked to an Anthem salesperson today. He told me the truth.

He said not to bother anymore with my application, to just wait for the exchanges.

He confirmed what I suspected, that Anthem had no interest in accepting the application that I began in March because they were making more money on my COBRA plan.

$1,371/month for one person, that's my Anthem Blue Cross plan under COBRA.

$600/month is the plan I'm trying to get, with Anthem, so that I can keep the same doctors.

They keep sending me notes asking for additional records, which takes a lot of time, and I keep paying the premium.

My salesperson confirmed when I asked him for details that I would never get a $600 plan and would be lucky if I got a $900 plan with my application and that it would only be month to month and I don't qualify for HIPPA because I can get COBRA.

Just wait for the exchanges.

I love OBAMACARE and I can barely wait!

I'm also on COBRA and paying only $826 a month. My jaw dropped when I read your payment. According to Lady Di (my tax preparer), under Obamacare I will pay about $350 a month and be eligible for a subsidy.

Everyone blames Obama that rates went up, I don't care if that's true or not, damn greedy insurance companies.

$1,371 doesn't even cover everything, anything I do costs money, lab work, meds, copays, it's totally undercoverage.

Argh.

The copays, etc., do hurt. At least I only take one expensive med; others are generic. And a year from now, I'll be on Medicare!

Were you able to get any assistance from unemployment insurance for your Cobra payments? Six years ago I was unemployed when my company folded.

I was paying Cobra for several months when a friend told me I could apply for assistance. I never heard of this. They base it on your financial status. I thought yeah right, they'll say I am just fine. I almost didn't apply, thought it was to late. Low and behold they reimbursed me. I ended up paying only one month of Cobra when I got a job. My new company luckily put me on a plan after 30 days.

I am so glad that the exchanges will help you SKP! Obamacare~

I had three jobs in 2010, the full time position had benefits and I resigned in March (assholes), but the other two jobs are plenty income.

So I don't qualify for any assistance but damn, that insurance is more than my house payment!

Cant wait!
