I'm cracking up here. But I'm honored, too.

And that's all I'm sayin' at this point.

Obama, I hope this all works out and I don't care how it got done, I'm giving you credit, baby!

I'm hearing the likes of Hannity and Rush complaining about how Obama fucked up and how inept he is and how he doesn't deserve any credit.

understanding action/reaction. listening, thinking, understanding and moving forward. i think this is what happens. people look at the beginning as a now with no shifting and they stake a position. in staking the position they make themselves vulnerable to shifting situations. new info. new realities. and the anger at still arguing the first moments when the end is totally different from what they were arguing.

k

one of my confusing woo woo thoughts. but, it works for me in understanding.

periodically i still jump the gun, and too often get pie in the face, so i have learned to not come to any unmovable position while things are still happening.

It's one thing to express your support for a particular viewpoint, but the stronger you put it out there, the harder it is to see contrary facts that may arise. I think it literally impacts the ability of our brains to perceive evidence to the contrary.

I try to stay out of the corner, not because I don't have an opinion, but because opinions on DU are so often punished.

I have nobody on ignore because I respect opinions counter to mine. I am not always correct on things, but I try very diligently to get it right.

But personal attacks, stalking, baiting thread titles, and other rubbish ruins rational discussion. So I am staying in the corner on many issues because I have no intentions of enabling those who act so poorly here.

I try to remain polite and often thank people who take the trouble to respond, even when I disagree.

That's how to make DU a better place.

Way to go, Seabeyond.

Not only support, which I do; but like, is his ability to is piss off the left and the right to the point I can't tell the difference between the two with vitriol that's spewed. It's actually a talking point I use this to piss off family right wingers--"hey he pisses off the left too"--shuts them right up

I'm one of those who doesn't agree with everything, think all sane presidents (dubya's sanity is a iffy proposition--he needed any criticism he could get) need healthy criticism and far too much of what we've seen lately isn't healthy, or constructive, or true.

I'm like you, I started researching Syria, had a "oh shit" moment and understood the situation was very complex. I'm very glad bombs aren't falling and we seem to have reached a diplomatic solution-- that was the best possible outcome given the current facts as I understand them

very real, valid point.

i think people did not do a lot of listening to each other, and was more a battle. but, we have a solution that should appease both sides. no bombing and retribution for chemical weapon use. we should all be thrilled that obama and others were able to get to this place.

I really appreciate it, especially after having been called an Al Qaeda fan for supporting Obama.

But it was obvious to me from the start that this was a real game of chicken, in game theory terms. Brinkmanship, if you will, on a small scale since Syria isn't a nuclear power. But its backer is. That means Russia had to be stared down. We still don't know if it has worked. PBO still has to look as if he will strike if they don't cooperate. Although he can tone it down a smidgen, he still has to be the wild card in this game.

And we don't know what Russia has promised to Syria in return for giving up those CW. Or if they have cooked up a way to hide some. Perhaps a Nobel Prize is all Putin wants. Somehow I'm skeptical.

I was hoping the Russians were working overtime to prevent war. Nobody with any sense at all wants war and it doesn't matter how limited it is, it always sets the stage for the next war.

So yes, I give props to Obama for carrying that big stick. It made Putin's carrot look a lot tastier.

And I have no doubt that he'd have used it if Congress could be brought around to vote for using it.

Why? Because I trust Obama and always tend to give him enough space to carry out his duties HIS way.

His mind works differently than most of us and I find it a major process to try to figure him out. The only thing I can come up with is that he is always a ton of steps ahead of the rest of us. Of course, he has different information to work with than we do, so he has the advantage, but he is sharp as hell and does that Obama dance none of us have learned...including our enemies and the Republican party.

"Wait, what? You mean he really wanted _Y_ after all? Then we are against _Y_ because _Y_ is stupid, dangerous, and wrong for America! (And so is his obvious flip-flopping!)"

That's why the right has zilch credibility except among its most ardent sycophants.

The right is, generally, bereft of ideas and is merely self-absorbed in its radical knee-jerk reactionary posturing. Their entire national policy position is: 1) Wait and see what Obama seems to want to do, and b) oppose it. Nothing pro-active about the GOP at all.
