Howard Schultz: Obamacare Is 'A Good Thing For The Country'
snip//
President Obamas signature health care law is a good thing for the country, Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz said in an interview with CNBC anchor and USA Today contributor Maria Bartiromo published Monday.
Schultzs remarks come just a few weeks after he told Reuters that the coffee chain would not use the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, as an excuse to cut health benefits or worker hours.
Several companies have recently announced cuts to worker benefits, citing concerns about rising costs under Obamacare. The law requires employers with 50 or more full-time workers to offer health care coverage, or pay a fine.
Just last week, The Huffington Post reported that Trader Joe's would be cutting health care benefits for part-time workers who log fewer than 30 hours per week.
In August, UPS, the countrys fourth-largest employer, said it would stop providing health insurance for spouses of non-union workers who can get health care through their own employers, according to Reuters. IBM also recently announced that it would end company-provided health coverage for about 110,000 retirees.
Schultz suggested in the interview with Bartiromo that his support for Obamacare was rooted in the belief that companies need to significantly invest back into the country."

And, back in November 2012
"Why Obama Endorsement From Starbucks CEO Who Battled Obamacare Is A Big Deal"
snip//
If anyone knows business, its Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz. Thats exactly what Glenn Becks The Blaze said last year. Howard Schultz, the long-time leader of coffee giant Starbucks (NASDAQ:SBUX), now says he is voting for President Obama, after spending much of last year attacking Obamacare so much that he became a center point of Republican Majority Leader Eric Cantors press releases. Schultz this year added that an ability to lead in a bipartisan fashion was a prerequisite for his support. And today, he gave that support to President Obama, citing his performance during Hurricane Sandy.
Mitt Romney has been running on the (false) claim that he will create 12 million jobs and make the economy shine bright. For Howard Schultz, the man whom the right says knows business, to endorse Barack Obama, is a huge slam to Romney and his entire platform, fake as it may be.

And today, just days before the election, Schultz announced to CNBC that Starbucks earnings were better than expected, that he is raising shareholders quarterly dividends by a whopping 24%, and hes voting for Barack Obama.

(87,496 posts)Slowly, but they are. Kudos to Schultz for understanding that there is a necessity to make this investment. We will all be able to lead healthier lives with the help of Obamacare. This in turn increases our ability to perform and produce. It works as a cycle, that ends with our country becoming stronger.
Thanks for the great OP, Cha!

Shultz and Sinegal will see a return on their investment. Happier, healthier and more productive workers. It's a win win situation.
Thanks Cha~

(305,418 posts)day for Kauai'ians!
I've been putting it off.. but, I got there today on the bus and renewed my membership. The price of their organic quinoa is so reasonable that it's worth the price of a yearly membership.
Today on the way back happened to be the bus ride from hell.. but we made it!
I can see why you wouldn't have the time.. the hour bus ride each way takes up too much of the day but since I'm retired..
