Barack Obama

In 12 days millions of people who have been blocked from health care will have a chance to get into the system.
It is rather amusing to see the polls questioning the general population about their opinions and knowledge of Obamacare.
What they should have been doing is polling the people most directly impacted. It has been projected that only 7 million will sign up thru the Health Care Markets. I predict that they will have 7 million in the first hundred days.
If a couple of million sign up in the first week it will cause a political earthquake. If 10 million people sign up before 1/1/14 it will be a massive denunciation of Republican talking points and strategy and your are going to watch every Republican outside of the reddest Southern/Midwest areas running for cover.
I can't wait.

(2,770 posts)This will be THE Democrat's claim to bragging rights for many elections to come.
And the GOP will forever be seen as the party who tried to undo it.

Far be it from the pollsters to actually ask the people who this would impact.

(94,726 posts)We'll just be spared the sackcloth-and-ashes over it not being single-payer -- which we were never ever ever going to get in the first place since half the country thinks single-payer is a Commie plot.
My biggest concern is that over half the states (35, if I heard right yesterday) have governors who are trying to sabotage it for all they're worth, and there isn't enough money allocated in the plan to educate the public adequately and counter the RW propaganda. If they manage to make it fail, everyone hurt by its failure will blame Obama and the ACA itself. I do worry about that.

It's not a perfect plan and you will hear a lot about negative consequences of the changes.
There is an interesting discussion about this on reddit with some reasonable sounding worries about the future effects.
So be prepared for an extensive breaking in period and a lot of proposals for adjusting the rules in the near future.
I hope it ends up evolving into true single payer healthcare and eliminates the unnecessary burden on employers to provide it.

You don't suppose he's really referring to his party's behavior, do you? Surely a man of such exalted position would never lie!

(46,987 posts)I sure hope they have the systems ready in time. A lot of people have been waiting a long time for this. I have friends who have been counting down and praying nothing really bad happens to them before the plans take effect.
