obamacare: spreading the good news

Chuck Todd inspired me to contact all my local media about presenting the facts on Obamacare. I sent this to my local paper yesterday. The executive editor replied me.

This is my letter:

I wish to make a suggestion to the News Journal. Please bear me out and read this to the end.

On October 1, the Affordable Care Act will go into effect. This law will impact the lives of millions of Americans. However there is a lot that many residents may not know about the law. Once implemented, the law is expected to help some 30 million Americans.

snip

For example, WebMd, the immensely popular medical Website, is breaking down and explaining the law. CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aide, Blue Cross Blue Shield are all partnering to promote and explain the benefits of the law. Companies like the NFL Baltimore Ravens, D.C. United Soccer major league are promoting the law, as well as a host of celebrities.

There is also a lot of misinformation about the law out there. One of the reasons the media exists is to educate and correct information when it is distorted. People should be given the facts so that they can make decisions that will be beneficial to them and their loved ones.

I am passionate about the implementation of this law because I have a chronically ill husband. But beyond that, as a social worker, it bothers me that millions of poor people stand to benefit from the law, but are unaware of the facts.

an inspiration to help spread the news, she!

That happens a lot when we're determined to make lemonaide outta lemons!

From your link..

I wonder if your newspaper would consider doing a town hall and inviting Pensacolans to hear about what the law offers. Many people do not know some of the simple, but major benefits in the law. For example, that no longer will people be denied service because of pre-existing conditions. Parents who wish to keep their children on their health insurance will be able to do so until the children turns 26. People suffering with substance abuse and mental health issues will no longer go uncovered. Under ACA, they will have insurance.

Just Wednesday, I was able to share this fact with the mother of a 22-year-old, who has a heart condition. While his condition is stable now, she wanted to make sure he had health insurance, in case he ever got sick again. I informed her about the pre-existing component. I also told her that her child could remain on her insurance until 26, if she so desired.

Many thanks for the OP, she.. Obamacare~BOG

It's not our job to educate people....he

Wanker.

MSNBC host Chuck Todd said Wednesday that when it comes to misinformation about the new federal health care law, don't expect members of the media to correct the record.
During a segment on "Morning Joe," former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell (D) speculated that most opponents of the Affordable Care Act have been fed erroneous information about the law. Todd said that Republicans "have successfully messaged against it" but he disagrees with those who argue that the media should educate the public on the law. According to Todd, that's President Barack Obama's job.

"But more importantly, it would be stuff that Republicans have successfully messaged against it," Todd told Rendell. "They don't repeat the other stuff because they haven't even heard the Democratic message. What I always love is people say, 'Well, it's you folks' fault in the media.' No, it's the President of the United States' fault for not selling it."

More Americans do want Obamacare.

His second one is that it's not the media's job to report facts to the Public.

He makes me so mad I can barely type this. grr. Actually I'm glad he said what he did because.. he outed himself as stupid as we thought.. and now he's been..

same town! I was amazed to read that. It is so red here. I hope to get to meet her somehow!

I moved here a few years ago to be close to family & grandchildren and have not made a friend yet. That's a first for me, as I've never had problems making friends before. It gets pretty lonely at my age, having lost so many friends that have passed and unable to make new ones here with beliefs that are polar opposites..

I wonder if theyve already considered something like it. The benefit for the 30 million uninsured.

panhandle of Florida. We live only a few short miles of Alabamy & Georgia.
Do the math.............

To give you an idea of how red, I'll share a story with you.

Back in Oct. of 2008, I had the most amazing experience of my life; no exaggeration. Michelle Obama was scheduled to speak at the our Bay Civics Center in Pensacola, FL. I about went nuts when I read it!
http://pbrla.blogspot.com/2008/10/michele-obama-at-pensacola-civic-center.html
Well, my dil and I went more than three hours ahead of the scheduled time. But it took us almost a half hour to find a parking space first.
After parking, while walking to the auditorium, We noticed that there were more plates from out of state or from SE coast of Fl counties. But not many locally.

It didn't take us long, before we found the end of the line, but not quite in sight of the Civics Center yet.

It also didn't take long to see we were in the minority My dil is and looks American Indian and I am a tall, blonde Slavic type.... Very white.
But in an even shorter time, there was no recognition of color, race, gender - zip.

The electricity running through that crowd inching along in almost a mile long line was palatable! We were all bound with the same bond; the love and admiration of Obama and his wife Michelle and the need and desire over a broken country, for a true leader who the people knew we could trust.

When we finally got in, we got some decent seats, up a tier to the right of the stage. The place just kept filling up for another hour. It was soon sardines! I looked around and saw there was barely standing room only.

From my view, I was heartened to see many more whites, than before. I couldn't help not think, that not all whites in the south are sheep, thank God.

If I felt something so unbelievable in the air, outside; it was no comparison to what was inside. The closest thing of joy and excitement, would be when giving birth to my first child. Now that is a high first, ranking way above. But after that? Michelle and the day Obama became our President.....

But that day listening to the crowd and then Michelle herself, still gives me the chills (the good kind) whenever I think of it. And listening to these videos, bring tears to my eyes. I'm crying now, writing this.

Her speech was beyond amazing. The crowd yelling, "Yes we can!! YES, WE CAN!!! Up on our feet, all of one unity that transcended all the outer trappings, heart beating so fast with joy and hope and expected change. Someone to believe in! That was what Michelle represented so beautifully and made us so very proud to be a part of her and her husband's run.

She was so accessible, if you get what I'm saying.... I would not have had a qualm about walking up to her, putting my hand out or going to hug her. Then after, I probably would have fainted, dead away....

Little was made of her visit here in the local media. Much was maligned about it. In fact I did a search just now for a local paper story, but couldn't find one......... I wanted to get an accurate number of people there. I think it was between 800 - 1200, but not sure. There was a large section that the center owners refused to open. I know that there were still a few hundred outside, who sadly didn't make it in. But Michelle came out to them, after her speech to speak to them for a half hour!! How just like her !

That was the next most memorable experience of my life. And I have never recovered from it. And I doubt I ever will or would want to.

These give a fair idea of that extremely rare, incredible day, here in blood red Pensacola, Fl.

Good pic of the crowd
