is having better mental health for those who need it. We really need to bring back programs as we had in the past. Open state hospitals back up and local clinics for out-patient, group therapy and support groups.

Twenty years ago, Aaron Alexis, the DC shooter, would have been Baker-Acted into a mental health facility and given meds for his delusional behavior, when he was seen by the RI police. They would have been able to keep him there for the time it took to stabilize him.

But now a days, there are too few facilities to B-A him to. The poor guy was sick. Not nuts, but ill with a brain decease/disorder.

Sadly, there is still too much shame associated with mental illness. And the fault for that rests squarely on the legislatures who cut all help to the bare bone and insurance companies whose rates were prohibitive for most people to afford to get the help they meed.

At least this is a change for the better, in that respect. But we have a long ways to go to create quality places available.

I think that's part of the republicans problem with Obamacare. They "KNOW" the public is going to like it once they get signed up, and that scares the crap out of them. They also know, as has been posted already, that a lot of voters could be changing their votes once they find out just how much they have been lied to by the republicans on this.

Funny how Republicans will take advantage of a government program when it helps them isn't it? I haven't heard him say anything negative about Obama for the last several months.

Many republicans that used to be part of the middle class are having a hard time, just like everyone else. Many of them can no longer afford health insurance, and many of their children are now in need of health insurance. Once they get past the right wing lies, I think we will see a larger percent of Americans who will "like" what they are getting.

Thanks for the additions, Cha. We are in a countdown now. Eight days!

ObamaCare’s Medicare / Medicaid Reforms
One of the biggest impacts ObamaCare has is on both Medicare and Medicaid.

ObamaCare cuts $716 billion in “waste” from Medicare and reinvests it back into Medicare and ObamaCare in an effort to improve the care that seniors get. It addresses issues such as closing the Medicare Part D “donut hole” and providing better quality preventive services to seniors. Read More On Obamacare and Medicare and How it affects seniors.

ObamaCare Medicaid Expansion expands Medicaid to 17 million of our nation’s poorest. However, this aspect of healthcare reform is in jeopardy due to the states’ ability to opt-out of Medicaid expansion. 16 States have already opted out of Medicaid expansion. From the govt website, www.healthcare.gov they tell you you can figure your
subsidy for insurance by using the calculator at Keiser.

This is only an estimate though. It may vary.

There's a calculator at the site to see how much you would pay for insurance after any subsidies.

For example: a single person making only $21,000 and not qualified for medicaid, that person might pay about $97 a month for a silver plan. Might be tough for the average person to come up with that $97.

Calculate your premium and subsidies:
http://kff.org/interactive/subsidy-calculator/

Here are the percentages of health care costs you pay for each type of plan.

Bronze plan: 40%
Silver plan: 30%
Gold plan: 20%
Platinum plan: 10% of your health care costs.
(The higher the out of pocket the lower the premium)

http://www.webmd.com/health-insurance/insurance-marketplace/marketplace-insurance-choices

Main website is www.healthcare.gov

I'm not saying there aren't good things, but the really bad thing is that health care will be based on class/wealth
and many low income people will not be able to afford it.

And low income people are eligible for subsidies (or to have it for free), both on the premiums and the remaining out of pocket expenses.

The current system is truly a class system; the ACA begins to level the access-to-health care playing field. It isn't perfect, but to complain that the ACA is creating ("will be&quot a class/wealth based health care system is really stretching.

Republican on this. Again, it's not perfect, but let's push to improve it. Let's get more progressives in office and push for a public option.

Remember: Many of us stayed on the phone, calling our own Democratic Party senators, begging them to sign on to a public option and many of them refused to do so. These were largely moderate and conservative Democrats who did not support a public option for whatever reason. Obamcare isn't perfect but let's get it improved.

The Supreme court struck down the mandatory Medicaid expansion for low income people, and some (republican run) states are refusing to expand it out of spite, even though for the next few years it does not cost them anything. So low income people who do not qualify for traditional Medicaid in states which refuse to expand Medicaid will be in a world of hurt.
