Barack Obama
Related: About this forumStill a lot of support for our President!
Went to happy hour today with six other worker/drone, paralegal/secretary-type people (like me). Ages are 20 to 55. They are married, divorced, in a relationship, etc. Some have children, some don't. The conversation, inevitably, went to politics. Very happy to to say that all voiced support for President Obama and are disgusted with the Republican obstruction. All willing to give Obamacare a fair chance to succeed. Everyone wants to give Obama a Congress in his favor in 2014. Some others there heard our conversation and voiced their support as well. There were two cranky old guys we tried to educate but they were beyond reach (Fox News junkies). In all, a very nice time with some co-workers of a similar mindset after a very trying week!
Turned the newbies on to DU and BOG.

(229 posts)we are divided in my work place. stoutly conservatives and fiercely loyal progressives. so we all agreed to disagree and not to talk politics in the office. so those who think alike meet for lunch and have a good time and no more tension. i am one of the loyal progressives who just can't seem to understand why women vote republican. i can't wrap my brain around it. i can also attest to the support of Obama by many who are quiet democrats who love my "Obama birth certificate" coffee cup.

(4,309 posts)I'm in a small cubicle and came under management pressure to take down my small "war is not the answer" sticker a few years ago and did so. I need my job. I don't talk politics in the office. I also can't understand how women can vote Republican although most women I work with are totally Democratic. I also get support from the "quiet" progressives who comment on my Obama peace sign logo coffee cup!

(229 posts)can somehow join those from miles apart. i proudly carry that mug to every meeting, to the lunch room, to the coffee room and i get smiles every day. i know in my heart that there are many "quiet" democrats out there. i no longer try to persuade anyone. i just carry my mug and they know where i stand. i smile and say nothing. a nod is all i need to know. today i saw a post from one of my "friends" that said "anyone with a Obama bumper sticker should be embarrassed". well i am not. i will proudly drive my car with my sticker and i will proudly carry my coffee mug where ever i go. you keep filling up that coffee mug and smile at everyone who looks at it.

(4,309 posts)And my car, OMG, has evolved into a rolling Progressive/Democratic manifesto with the OBAMA 2012, peace symbol and pro-choice stickers. Yeah, I have gotten the same "embarrassed" crap from some of my "friends" also but I'm proud of my vote! Even my (formerly) GOP younger sister voted OBAMA-BIDEN in 2012. She's a formerly quiet Democrat who is not so quiet anymore, much to her husband's chagrin. Fill up your mug and carry it proudly, JanT!!!

(6,151 posts)Please extend my congratulations to one and all.
I have a birth-certificate coffee mug also, but my dogs never say anything about it. There's a lot to be said for the peace and quiet of living alone, but conversation sometimes lags.

(6,151 posts)Can't afford much, but last campaign season I got my mini beagle-pom Molly Maguire a sweater that reads "Yellow Dog Democrat" and a new matching leash because she chewed up the Barack Obama one from the first campaign. Don't know what to do about the new JRT I named Brigid, except she's almost entirely white and practically hairless, so maybe I could just use body paint to write the words directly on her?!
Truth to tell, I'm going to keep an eye out for a GOP candidate squeaky chew toy, so if anyone finds one, tell me where, please! I used a red sharpie to write MUTT on both sides of an extra large rubber chicken that MM ran all around the yard with, making it squawl so loud you could hear it all over town. Even the passersby I knew would vote R laughed about it.
JanT
(229 posts)i will be on the lookout for a chew toy just for you. it would warm my heart to know MM is running around the yard chewing the head off a Ted Cruz dog toy!

It's so wonderful to be able to talk with kindred spirits(co-workers where we make our money!) about something as important as politics which includes our lifelines.. Air, Food, Water, places to live, etc etc etc..
