(53,661 posts)They also know that the ACA - or as I will now refer to it, the Affordable Care Act - is one of the things we must work to inform the American public to not lose any ground for good changes.
For those of us who are not even in exchanges or did not get our insurance through it, the Affordable Care Act has still made a huge difference.
Just in the ATTITUDE of health care providers and insurers. More respect, no denials that aren't said upfront and a firm commitment to lowering costs and spending more on patients.
It has created the atmosphere that will make going to single payer - or better yet - universal health care acceptable to just about every voter. There are many unusual forces pushing for this - the IMF, the Pope and other public influencers - who want this to get us away from the profit driven system.
It is said to be Obama's biggest success in his presidency, and I know he has done many things through the auspices of the Affordable Care Act that took refute all the wrongful statements about Obama's actions in office. I've posted these many times.
Such as it lifts the FICA cap, lowers the profits of insurers so much they kick and scream as each of the gradual mandates come on line. Most significant was that the law was passed and protects the most needy, the poorest and women.
Obama is the first feminist president in every regard, and has done more for civil rights and ending wars than anyone in my lifetime. I was born while Truman was president so you know I've seen a lot of them come and go.
Best POTUS ever! Gosh, I miss him already. I want to savor this time when we have a man in office of his caliber and who is truly on the side of all the people, especially those who haven't been given a fair shake in this country and the world.

(3,811 posts)Yes, the house health care reform with the public option would have been preferable. Yes, private insurance companies are still a major feature of the U.S. health care system.
But the reforms are real. The protections are real. Insurance companies are competing in a way that they've never had to before.
The day is coming soon when we won't need to re-fight on a daily basis the fundamental reasons why we need to reform the health care system.

(6,151 posts)You should know a housebound friend of mine in L.A. (IRL - I used to live there) looks forward so much to pictures of President Obama that I send her, most from DU. She only has one son left, and calls Barack her 'other son'. That's how much so many of us love him and his whole family. I feel the same. I don't know how any parent could not feel proud of a son like that.

(37,468 posts)I really do think he cares about us. Call me naive, but that's how I feel. I never got that feeling from GWB.

(6,151 posts)pudding. And he's a zillion times nicer to his detractors than I could ever be. If I chanced upon Boner where I was fairly sure not to be caught and thrown in jail, I'd have a hard time not slapping his face. Heck, I couldn't even trust myself not to do it in plain open public.

(37,468 posts)It must be very hard working with people who lie to you and who hate you, mainly because you are *shudder* black. We all know that's a huge part of their hatred of him.

(6,151 posts)How it must burn when faced by his defenders! How many of them (hint: zero) have supporters who'd take a bullet for them out of pure love? My bet is that POTUS has many. So the Repugs hate him also because we don't, and even their own mothers don't love them as much. That must rankle.
