The legacy of 9/11 is that our spirit is mightier, the bonds that unite us are thicker, and our resolve is firmer.

(17,656 posts)After 2001, I used to spend September 11th wondering what would become of this nation, up until just a few years ago.
But, when the 8th anniversary took place in 2009, most of the worry that I had that we would fall apart and become ineffective at implementing change fell away, and I realized that we had survived the worst decade of our lives while George W. Bush was in office, with Dick Cheney whispering in his ear, telling him what evil thing to do next.
Remembering to do good things for others on this date, in spite of what happened back in 2001, is the best medicine we can do for ourselves to help ourselves heal from how we felt when hearing the terrible news of what had happened that year.
President Obama is leading by example, something all great leaders have done.
And the information in this thread is proof that President Obama is definitely a great leader of this country.

(305,440 posts)what they do best.. helping others.
I know what you mean about making it to 2009.. 8 years after 9/11 when the unthinkable happened.. it's still hard to wrap my head around it. I was living upstate in New York at the time.. it was too unbearably sad.. and then the aftermath of the bush-cheney misbegotten war on Iraq.
I remember seeing what happened live as I still watched the today show back then.. and my head was swirling in unbelievable chaos.. I went out for a run and past houses where no one was home.. thinking they don't know yet how much the world is changed.
I was a political neophyte but, I was still thinking that bush would use this to his advantage.. little did we know what evil they had in store.
