Rachel on the Fast and Furious Fiasco which was orchestrated by the GOP. Then she covers how all of MSM chose to NOT cover the momentous and noteworthy action taken by the Obama administration that same day, using a faked smear of Shirley Sherrod to make sure that no one knew what Obama had accomplished.
Rachel wondered if the American public would fall for the Faux, Rush, Beck, Infowars, Libertarian, GOP smear machine again. They have, repeatedly, because the MSM is as unanimous in their obstruction as the elected GOP. And that's how it has infected online boards, even 'progressive' ones:
Rachel on Holder's strong condemnation of Stand Your Ground laws. In this video she shows the corruption of the SYG law creators and supporters, and gives coverage of how Holder goes over his own experiences and being forced to have 'The Talk' with his own son after the Trayvon Martin shooting and trial. That didn't even touch on the experiences in his family.
Rachel includes a talk with an attorney who worked for the Holder DOJ who explains the limitations of civil rights litigation, but mentions the 141 hate crime convictions won under Holder:
Rachel deals with false memes pushed by MSM, and the disinformation put out about Holder. She adds the exchange where batshit crazy Gohmert claims that a flat recital of facts that are REALITY, so anathema to those who disregard facts on all sides, is a personal attack. This fact free, over the top rhetoric is common when people condemn Holder.
A red-faced Louie protests that the facts by Holder impugn his 'character' and 'integrity.' Then Gohmert accuses Holder of casting 'aspersions on my asparagus.'
Louie plays the role of a fool, but the court jester Touchstone, sees the truth:
...Of a certain knight that swore by his honor they were good pancakes, and swore by his honor the mustard was naught... But you cant swear by what you dont have - and this knight had no honor, or if he did, he swore it off before he ever saw those pancakes and that mustard...
In their next encounter, Holder still wishes him well:
'Good luck with your asparagus.'
Rachel goes into his work on voting rights and many other civil rights matters. After his resignation, she tells us he'll finish visiting the last US Attorney after having visited every other one. The scandals he cleared up from the Bush administration have made him hated. She's honest, but he's been too busy for sound bites.
Rachel wrapped up with this, in which she explains the extraordinary work he is doing now to extend voting to more Americans, how he has already changed unfair drug laws, and helped to keep people out of prison. And so much more:
The Rachel Maddow Show - AG Eric Holder and his Accomplishments:
I'll post more on what this quiet but determined man has done for us and the cases for and against him.

(30,058 posts)It is refreshing to read the good things Eric Holder has accomplished. Again he could not wave a magic wand and clean up the world but he was busy. I was happy to see him stick it to Congress though they held him in contempt. He stayed longer than normal as a favor of President Obama, so thanks for his service.

(94,698 posts)I referenced Rachel's piece in one of the threads where DUers just had to spew on Holder without reservation, but I didn't have the heart to go further than that. Jesus, you'd think the man was the the worst thing since John Ashcroft.

(53,661 posts)We didn't want to say they could be so petty and anti-American. We understand them when they say it's not about race or gender. The haters can keep on telling themselves that while the future moves on...
Every so often, Bill Maher actually hits a home run, like this he said when PBO got the ACA passed:
Democrats in America were put on earth to do one thing: drag the ignorant hillbilly half of this country into the next century, which in their case is the 19th - and by passing health care, the Democrats saved their brand.
Let's not forget that win. Maher said that night about how the GOP were trying to block it:
The best thing that's happened this year is when President Obama finally realized this and said, "Kiss my black ass, we're going it alone, George W. Bush style."

Holder's Legacy: Steering Away From the Drug War and Mass Incarceration
by Bill Piper
snip//
"When it comes to criminal justice reform, Attorney General Eric Holder -- who announced today he will soon resign -- waged a revolution from within. Taken individually some of his work seems incremental. Seen as a whole it's quite bold.
In a pivotal 2013 speech to the American Bar Association, Holder said that "too many Americans go to too many prisons for far too long, and for no truly good law enforcement reason." He boldly worked to change that and could very well go down in history as the Attorney General who began unwinding the war on drugs and steering our country away from mass incarceration.
From rolling back punitive sentencing laws to permitting state-level marijuana reforms to move forward, Holder shifted the U.S. away from some of the failed criminal justice policies of the past generation. I can only hope that this momentum continues to translate into new policies - and that President Obama replaces Holder with someone who is going to carry on his legacy of reform."
snip//
Holder's accomplishments include:
-- Calling on policymakers at all levels to find ways to reduce the number of people behind bars.
-- Supporting efforts in Congress and the U.S. Sentencing Commission to reduce punitive sentencing.
-- Supporting policies that made the sentences of thousands of prisoners shorter and fairer
-- Changing how the Justice Department charges people to reduce the application of draconian mandatory minimum sentencing.
-- Establishing guidance allowing states to legalize and regulate marijuana with less federal interference.
-- Establishing guidance to make it easier for banks to deal with state-legalized marijuana businesses.
-- Promoting efforts to re-integrate formerly incarcerated individuals into society and eliminate barriers to successful re-entry.
-- Working to end the "school-to-prison pipeline", including working with the Departments of Education to scale back "zero tolerance" school discipline policies.
-- Advocating for the restoration of voting rights for the formerly incarcerated.
-- Urging federal law enforcement agencies to identify, train and equip personnel who may interact with a victim of a heroin overdose with the overdose-reversal drug naloxone.

Eric Holder Transformed the Attorney General into an Advocate for the Poor
Just a snip//
"Before becoming the nation's top law enforcement officer, there was no indication that Eric Holder would ultimately become an advocate for poor people incarcerated in our nations prisons and jails. After all, Eric Holder spent most of his professional career as a criminal prosecutor. He started out as a prosecutor in the Justice Departments Public Integrity Section where for 12 years he worked to put away corrupt public officials. During his five years as a judge in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, he earned a reputation as a tough sentencer, locking up countless young African American men for long periods of time."
Much more~

(1,596 posts)I would expect that from you-know-whose, but here? It's very unsettling and a bit surprising. Holder is a hard working AG that has gotten a lot of results for his work and yet people crab about him.
