(53,661 posts)He quotes the Brown family and that they want major change, not violence, to be their son's legacy. He says there are real problems and 'Communities of color are not just making it up.'
That has been proven over and over again and the rights of POC must be acknowledged and their stories heard and used to make major changes. The process of learning is not going to be easy in the face of media induced willful ignorance.
The phrase, 'God help us' comes to mind. If not that, 'Grow up, people!'

(15,703 posts)On the one hand it takes me back to the Rodney King uprising in 1992 which I remember vividly. Lots of suspicious fires left to develop into total losses, each breathlessly broadcast on a brand-new all-news channel, stand-downs by the cops, lots of property destroyed. The result was that L.A.'s beloved African-American mayor ended his fourth term in disgrace. Tom Bradley was his name. 52 people killed too I believe.
On the other hand I'm glad PBO has a handle on this one and knew what to say and when to say it. But all in all not a good night.

(13,804 posts)"First and foremost we are a nation built on the rule of law."
Does anyone truly believe that the U.S. abides by the rule of law ????????????
Is our justice system fair and impartial ???
Does money play a part in our judicial system ???
Is our penal system fair and humane ???
Should our fellow citizens be caged for decades because they raise or use a medicinal plant ???
Are white collar criminals (Wall Street) above the law or has the U.S. decided they have not broken any laws ???
Has president Bush and his administration been held responsible by the nation that was built on the rule of law ???
I really do not understand how any one can listen to the continuing lies and deception.

(15,703 posts)Law is a process that produces an approximation of justice. The point is that without laws we wouldn't even have that much. They're only as good as we make them and if they need to change then we need to change them.
