(71,825 posts)i think if i every have the chance, i would like to remind him of our first meeting. not because i think i am so memorable, but because he has such a great memory, i am sure the memory would bring a smile to his face.
i attended a rally of the dupage democrats, when that was barely a thing. (il 6, formerly represented by henry hyde :puke
i listened to his state senate colleagues heap praise on him. who is this obama dude, anyway? somewhere i have some blurry photos of him onstage that night.
at the end of the rally i was hanging w christine cegelis who was running for congress at the time. he came up and we three had a brief chat, of which i remember nothing but that smile.
as everyone was leaving i was circling the parking lot in my art car- the beat bush mobile. covered in bumper stickers, including several of his.
i drove and honked and waved, and happened to be passing the entrance as he was leaving. the car got a big smile and a wave.
since then i have been to many funders and rallies, including some that were very small. i lost count of how many times i got to just shake his hand, 8-10 or so. i have a great pic from one rally that the hubby took that i really cherish.
i also pissed off the secret service to get his autograph. on michelle's book.
cherish that quite a bit, too.

(3,676 posts)I went to a small rally when he first started running. He was so attentive when he talked to you. He would look straight into your eyes and act like he really cared what you had to say. I was impressed.
I didn't voter for him at the caucus because I liked Edwards healthcare plan better. I'll never forget the caucus. OMG! It was the first one I was in charge of. The turnout was unreal. Triple the normal. The enthusiasm for Obama was catching.

(6,151 posts)Unfortunately I was asleep at the time. But that was a sweet dream, oddly enough featuring a meeting I'd called to organize neighborhood watch for my block.
Nobody else showed up in the dream, not neighbors anyway. I wouldn't have wanted them here under the circumstances
, because they're mostly teabaggers and I'm selfish.
This dream delighted me so much that I wrote President Obama the first snail mail I've done in probably a decade. Said I thought he might need a cheerful thought someday to break the tension of dealing with his disloyal opposition. Got a return note on official WH stationery (much nicer than mine), but what I've never learned is how or whether there's a way to know if it's an automatic canned reply or maybe - just maybe? - a personal reply to my letter which he actually might've read.
Anyone have the answer?

(3,919 posts)have never received a response. so, treasure your response, irishayes.
i have no illusions i will ever be meeting president or mrs. obama - but we shared a lovely dinner at the white house a couple of months ago - in a dream. and, i have a relative who has been to special events at the white house - so, 6 degrees are better than 1/2 a billion...

(6,151 posts)I just wonder how if at all it could be determined to have come from President Obama's own hand. One thing in possible favor is the fact that I did not request a reply, and you know these days even the secretary's office doesn't send out canned responses in the absence of such request. Regardless, I'll cling to the hope my letter was one of those ten which the president says he reads and answers every night.
