A final vote could come as soon as Thursday if senators agree to limit the final 30 hours of debate allowed under Senate rules.
Senators voted 62-38 on the bill, which will allow the president to send a sweeping Asia-Pacific trade deal to Congress for an up-or-down vote, and prevent the deal from being amended by Congress.

(16,104 posts)for bashing the Democrats and President Obama.
I believe this is a "no drama" zone.
Democracy and facts prevailed today over "minority opinion."
Will all repeat in the House of Representatives, so nothing is over!

(305,440 posts)what those who think he is a "Trojan horse" and other expletive deletives have to say about it.
Quote from Sen Ron Wyden..
"Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), the lead Democratic sponsor of the bill, said he worked through the night to try and win agreements from his colleagues, and was talking with Obama after 11 p.m. to find the way forward.
"The president is all-in on this issue. There's no other way to describe it," Wyden told reporters shortly after the vote.
snip//
Wyden noted that the TPA bill requires that trade agreements will eventually be posted for the public to see.
"Starting with the Trans-Pacific Partnership, that agreement will be public for 60 days before the president signs it, and for probably a couple of months after that," Wyden said. "The American people will be able to come to a town hall meeting of their House member or their senator for close to four months with the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement in their laps, and they will be able to ask questions of their elected officials before a single vote is cast."
However, with fast-track powers, Obama will have a much easier time winning those votes. The fast track mandates that agreements cannot be amended, the Senate cannot filibuster them and they must get simple majorities in each chamber to pass.

"A myth" not exclusive to republicons. Nobody can erase what the President has accomplished so far, no matter how much they lie and deny.

What We Can/Can't Learn From President Obama's Jump in Favorability
Gallup had some interesting news today. President Obama's favorable rating jumped 4% points this month.
It is important to distinguish this from the President's job approval rating. Here's what Gallup says about that.
A president's favorable ratings are distinct from approval of his performance; job approval ratings generally tend to be lower. For the Obama presidency, Gallup trends show the two measures have changed largely in tandem. As Obama's approval rating has rebounded nine percentage points from a low of 37% last fall, his favorable rating has increased 11 points from 42%.
But what is even more interesting is to take a look at the recent results by party affiliation.

(305,440 posts)How ironic the President's favorability jumped 4% when so many in his own party were trying to bring him down. Intimating he is sexist.. basically calling him a liar.. both times major Projections on the part of his accusers.
"As you can see, there has been almost no change in the President's favorability rating with Republicans and Democrats. Most all of the change has come from Independents - with an increase of 6%."
Thank you for that link from smartypants, she, and the chart!

(16,104 posts)The Democrats who have turned their back on Obama are the ones we should be making lists of! They are merely pandering politicians who can't be bothered with real leadership that takes more than a 30-second sound-bite!

(17,656 posts). . . how many tire tracks did the minority screechers put on Wyden's back when they threw him under the bus?
Ya know, Senator Wyden, that reliably liberal bastard from Oregon!
If there were a Senator more liberal than Wyden, I would think of Frank Church, but then, he's dead now, ain't he?
I watched a tv program the other night about the Church Committees that investigated the FBI in 1975 concerning the surveillance overreaches the FBI had engaged in for decades under J. Edgar Hoover, the origins of which dated clear back to the mid-1950s, during the red scare days.
It all started with a Freedom of Information Act request from the FBI for their Cointelpro program.
Fritz Mondale was on those committees!
Man, did he look young back then!
What a great Senator Mondale was.
And a great Vice President, too.
