Former Gov. Howard Dean
Former Gov. Howard Dean praised Obamas second inaugural speech, saying it artfully but precisely spelled out how he intends to lead the country over the next four years.
It was not just soaring rhetoric, Dean said. It was an exact weighing out about why we need to do things differently and then he went on to say what we had to do differently. I thought it was one of the better inaugural speeches Ive heard.
Dean, who ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2004 and was chairman of the Democratic National Committee in 2008 when Obama was first elected, said Obama sounded like he planned to be more aggressive pushing his agenda and less willing to compromise with right-wing Republicans.
That was very different from his inaugural, where he was talking about that everybody was going to work together and so on, Dean said. I think he means to get things done whether the Republicans want to work with him or not. Thats what I heard in that speech.

There's more from Dean at the link and also from other Vermont political figures including Bernie Sanders.

(47,992 posts)3. The only thing to do is to go out and do what we're going to do anyway, just more of it. I wish
there were more consequences, to Dems doing this stuff, but everything 3rd-party gets tainted by Libertarian & Tea types who don't have any qualms about dissembling and there's just too much on the table to risk it.
Have been kind of sad about rumors of MoveOn and Tea Party alliance, thinking here that MoveOn has pretty significant power to press hard right, worried they're going to turn established Labor against rising Labor . . . getting ahead of myself I guess . . . .
Have an organizing meeting Saturday, that'll help, to have some actual work to do!!

(27,759 posts)4. Honestly wasn't too much of a point to it unless we have the House
We've got to take back the House in 2014 and then there is no excuse for not at least making it a talking filibuster.
