President Obama walks down the Collonade of the White House with Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders ahead of their meeting Thursday morning.

President Obama is meeting with Bernie Sanders on Thursday morning at the White House. Now that Hillary Clinton has clinched the Democratic nomination, the question on the minds of many Democrats is when the Vermont senator will give up his fight for the party's presidential nomination.
The meeting came at Sanders' request, according to the White House. According to a statement, the two are expected to "continue their conversation about the significant issues at stake in this election that matter most to America's working families."
It's a delicate dance. Obama told Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday in a taping of NBC's The Tonight Show that he hopes the party will be able to "pull things together."
"What happens during primaries," Obama said, "you get a little ouchy. Everybody does."
Obama is expected to endorse the presumptive nominee Clinton in the near future, and to begin campaigning for her.

Now sanders is sucking up to the President after he's done nothing but diss him on the campaign trail.
And, what was that Nina Turner was saying about President Obama not being burnie's boss? Looks like he is to me.

(14,040 posts)before the winner. I'm sure it's because no one wants to hurt Bernie's feels but it still looks bad to me.

It's clear that the top Ds view Sanders as a loose cannon who needs to be handled carefully. They will toss him a few meaningless bones to keep him on board, but at this point, the goal has to be to marginalize him while not pissing off his most-zealous followers.

(5,811 posts)and most admired man in the world - President Obama being gracious and kind.
Bernie's post-PBO meeting statement was the DEMOCRATIC platform as it is. The interesting thing is his supporters really don't understand that Presidents are not dictators. Bernie would never ever have been able to do most of the stuff he wanted because you have to have a Congress who will fund a president's policy agenda. Right now the GOP controls both houses. By souring his followers on the DEMOCRATIC party, he's made it harder for us to get the down tickets wins we need to get both houses back in Dem control.
It is what it is. We just have to work harder.

(2,586 posts)Bernie met with Obama that's the facts of the piece. Characterizing it as "sucking up" is just being inflammatory.

(305,406 posts)I know BS' history of dissing the President on the campaign trail.
Trash it if you don't like it.

(16,714 posts)While his has disappointed (made me crazy) me over some things he did well enough to warrant this and I 'hope' he refocuses on getting stuff done in the Senate.
His action in the next couple weeks will mold his legacy for sure.
