Did he think they would poison him or something?
The White House typically serves food and drinks to guests, but Sanders stopped at a Peets Coffee in downtown Washington to pick up coffee and a scone before heading over to the White House, according to reports.

(44,173 posts)IDK. Maybe the White House coffee is not to his liking?
They used to say that the Carter White House really skimped on food for guests, but I don't think the Obama White House is that way.

(15,696 posts)You know, the ones Laura Bush fired and brought in the guy who wrote "Desserts For Dummies"? (I kid you not. You can't make this crap up).
Anyway, the White House begins serving small bites of food for meetings, beginning very early in the morning. To bring your own fast food to a meeting there is incredibly rude, and it insults the skilled chefs who work almost all night long to prepare exquisite morsels for guests.

He was going into a HUGELY symbolic situation.
The people's house that will not be his
Occupied by a man who, Sanders knew, was endorsing Hillary
By a man he sought to have primaried in 2012
Not his house, not his territory, not his rules, not his comfort zone
Breakfast was probably the one thing, consciously or not, that he figured he could still control.
Let the guy have his scone I guess. Hopefully he was gracious enough to bring extra. That's how I was raised. Bring enough for everybody if you bring food somewhere.

(24,630 posts)Dear Bernie Supporter -
As you know, President Obama invited Bernie to meet with him this morning at the White House. While one would expect the WH to provide breakfast for such a morning meeting, Sen Sanders could not be sure of that, based on his experience that President Obama "coulda done more" for the middle class.
That's why Bernie stopped by Peet's Coffee on his way to the WH to get a cup of working-class joe and a scone. But then, the DNC stepped in unfairly and asked WH security to double check the sustenance that Bernie brought with him. This resulted in a delay that not only allowed his coffee to cool down to room temperature, but dried out his scone to the point where it was uneatable.
In the meanwhile, it was reported that Hillary Clinton was eating a substantial breakfast that was no doubt paid for with $ raised through our corrupt system of campaign financing.
That's why we're asking you once again to support all that's good in the world by donating an additional $27 to St Bernard's campaign. Doing so assures you that he will take the fight for free college, free cars, free healthcare, free mansions and free X-Boxes all the way to the convention.
Bernie needs you now more than ever. Don't allow the DNC to be successful in their quest to cool down everyone's coffee, and to turn your breakfast danish into a dried-out work of art.
Donate, NOW!

The WH staff would accommodate a guest's dietary restrictions, wouldn't they? I can't relate.

(15,696 posts)The WH staff feeds kings, diplomats, and every other guest from every country in the world. Do you think they're not good enough to serve Bernie Sanders? Do you think they don't find out who's coming for meetings and what will be needed, if wanted? It's incredibly rude to show up for a meeting with the POTUS and bring your bag of crap and your paper cup of coffee.
