Former Donald Trump advisor Jim Dornan floated the notion on Friday that for $150 million he might be willing to go away. It wasnt entirely clear whether this was merely one Trump ally mouthing off of his own accord, or if Trump himself was planting this seed and this number with the media as part of a strategy to get a deal rolling. In any case leading conservative republican voice Bill Kristol immediately tweeted out the response Done.
Kristol believes he could get fifteen republican billionaires to cough up ten million dollars a piece in order to pay Trump the hypothetical ransom figure, thus getting him out of the race and allowing the republican party leadership to choose some other nominee at the convention in late July. Such a replacement nominee would enter the fray with no mandate, no momentum, no infrastructure, and little if any favor from Trumps supporters, and would be highly likely to lose badly.
But such a move would allow the republican party to regain control of itself in time to have a fighting chance in congressional races, many of which are now seen as being in danger due to the dampening effect of Trumps offensive mouth and refusal to work with party leaders in any capacity. So how real or how hypothetical is this notion of paying Trump to go away? Stay tuned.

(6,444 posts)Trump is hurting down the ballot candidates so it'd be a way to tourniquet the bleeding. Plus Trump is really odious as a front runner.
TRUMP as a candidate helps DEMS up and down the ballot and hurts GOP up and down the ballot. Either way they probably have to give up the Presidency. So they probably just wanna save down the ballot candidates as much as they can.

(3,284 posts)Now let's see if he bites or holds out for more--like rewriting the Republican platform and reshaping the party, and the primaries need to be opened up, and-and-and the super-delegates need to only support the underdog, etc.!

150 million may not be enough. I think that he would want more.

(4,824 posts)Also, he's so narcissistic that taking money from some Republicans to leave the race because they think he *can't win* doesn't seem likely.
Assuming his kids actually have influence with him, as long as he's not throwing away more of his own money on the campaign, they probably don't care if he continues.
