Nice timing, Jill, as Sanders is set to endorse Hillary. Will he take the bait?
Jill Stein, who is expected to be endorsed at the partys August convention in Houston, told Guardian US that overwhelming numbers of Sanders supporters are flocking to the Greens rather than Hillary Clinton.
Stein insisted that her presidential bid has a viable near term goal of reaching 15% in national polling, which would enable her to stand alongside presumptive nominees Clinton and Donald Trump in televised election debates.
But in a potentially destabilising move for the Democratic party, and an exciting one for Sanders supporters, the Green party candidate said she was willing to stand aside for Sanders.

(135,425 posts)The Green Party has been, if not ruined, held back by Jill Stein.
She is woefully incompetent. People from MA have had the opportunity to see her in action--she loves to run for offices she does not have a hope in hell of winning, and she loves to crap on the Democrats while she's doing that.
Until Jill Stein steps aside, Greens will have no hope of being taken seriously. She has exhibited no enthusiasm for growing the party from that "grass roots" that are referenced in the platform.
But Bernie Sanders as the standard bearer? Bernie Sanders doesn't subscribe to many Green Party goals--he would have to backtrack on a number of issues to fit in--and whatever one thinks of Sanders, fan or otherwise, he doesn't tend to backtrack.
If the Green Party is ever to grow, it needs to so do by being a party of principles as opposed to personalities.
In my view, anyway.

All he wants is a final chapter for his book.

(135,425 posts)She certainly didn't engage in a primary battle, did she? She didn't duke it out on a ballot--she's the Queen, and she was the "presumptive nominee" for 2016 four years ago--because she rules with an iron fist.
The Green Party is a failure in USA because of her selfish, brook-no-dissent grip on that entity. The Greens actually have some good ideas, but "Insufferable Jill" the Lexington suburbanite, does not represent the rank-and-file of those who favor the platform.
So long as Jill runs that enterprise, it's going nowhere in USA. She needs to step aside and make room for fresh blood and new ideas.

Can Sanders legally run as Green ? Would he be breaking "sore loser" laws?
