Hillary Clinton called in to the Bill O’Reilly Factor on Thursday night on Fox News to address the evening’s attack in Nice, France, which cost the lives of as many as eighty people. She remained on the air for a full eight minutes, and despite the generally antagonistic tone in which Fox has tended to take toward her over the years, she offered a brilliantly nuanced response to the issue of ongoing terrorist attacks against our foreign allies.

Stressing the importance of the alliance between the United States and France, Hillary Clinton stated that “This is a war against these terrorist groups, the radical jihadist groups. It’s a different kind of war. We need to be smart about how we wage it, but we have to be determined that we’re going to win it, and that’s going to require working with other people.” She went on to call for an “intelligence surge” and the strengthening of cooperation between our agencies and foreign agencies.

Clinton went on to explain that some European nations don’t currently share a sufficient level of intelligence information with each other, despite being in a Union together. In response to O’Reilly’s question about whether she would support NATO military action against ISIS, she stated that the United States would invariably end up being at the center of any such action: “Let’s not kid ourselves.
