(16,104 posts)this is a "landslide" choice!
Trump and Pence have extremist rightwing/crazed views, and Hillary nails the center/(real) independents with this choice.
If we have learned anything since 1992 - "Just win, baby!"

(48,799 posts)I like her. She used to be on CNN and was shunned, I think, after saying that Anne Romney never worked a day and her life... and had to apologize.
Anyway, she said that selecting Kaine shows that Clinton has a confidence in herself. That she is not forced to choose someone on the left and select someone with whom she is comfortable. Even a 'DCL" and other terms used here.

(42,454 posts)He isn't nearly as bad as I first thought--a solid VP choice. My oldest daughter, a devout Catholic ex-military republican (how the FUCK did one of MY kids turn out republican?) is one of those "Giant Meteor for President" types, as she will never vote for someone like Trump, and dislikes Hillary. I have hopes she can be wooed by this pick. Not that Kaine is in any way a Republican--he has a stolid liberal background, but the Catholic thing might.

(3,300 posts)Those on the populist left would have much preferred a progressive firebrand like Sanders or Warren on the ticket with Clinton. Instead theyre stuck with Kaine, who is opposed to abortion and enthusiastic about trade. Though Kaine is perceived as wobbly on abortion rights, he says these are moral decisions for individuals to make for themselves. His record in the Senate 100% scores from Planned Parenthood and NARAL suggests he means what he says and should quiet liberal concerns.

(42,454 posts)Is we NEED trade agreements, and a world economy needs us to share our wealth in trade agreements, and if we don't participate in the forming of them, we don't get a strong say. What is the alternative to TPP? NAFTA?
I find the TPP problematic, but I also have very little true understanding of international trade.
Kaine's voting record on abortion is fine for me--I don't think he will be forming reproductive policy anyway. He evolved on Gay rights as well, and is on the right page now.
