Hillary Clinton
Related: About this forumWhat do you think about General Discussion: 2016?
I posted the thread below in General Discussion 2016. I have an additional question for the Hillary group. Are you staying away from GD 2016 for the kind of reasons I describe below?

Do we have a new incarnation of the same old rage thing?
I've noticed that pro-Hillary and/or issues based posts don't get a lot of response. Sometimes just plain negative (note one where I said I was excited by Hillary's economic speech and the first response said, in effect, "Yeah, the proof is in the pudding."
This forum has somewhat the feel of the old Primaries forum. Lots of yelling and dissing and mocking. The difference, of course, is that Hillary was the target before, and the target now, Donald Trump, deserves every bit of mocking anyone can drum up. But, I find, I'm getting a little bored with it, especially without a healthy mix of pre-Hillary stuff beyond gloating about polls.

(53,656 posts)I forget about it until I consciously remrmber to go into that forum. So that could explain the lack of traffic--and why people tend to post what are really GD2016 posts in Good Reads,Video, GD, etc.
At this point, with the worst of anti-Hillary trolls driven off, and any obviously anti-Hillary posts usually hidden, I dont see the point of keeping GD2016 off the front page. All of DU has become a de facto GD2016 -- as it should be.

(2,542 posts)It's as broken as ever, and we're back to dealing with "some" hateful elements trying to attack us and our candidate.

(15,696 posts)Concerned posters with constructive criticism.
Constructive criticism of Clinton.
Only Clinton.
No mention of Trump.
Just Clinton.
I'm done with that snakepit.

(2,577 posts)And too many "smart people" have bought into the ongoing stupid. I do want to scream when I see one of my favorite writers put a headline like this on a column "If Hillary endorses so and so, she loses my vote." How special. Thank you for holding Hillary to a super-duper gold standard of perfection that you would NEVER hold a male candidate.
This morning I woke to npr telling me about some supposedly sketchy emails between Hillary's campaign and the foundation. Must be something there, right? Then the female reporter made sure I understood that we had two of the MOST unpopular candidates running for president in 2016.
That toxicity has drifted into DU. I was deeply troubled during the primaries when I kept seeing posts that reflected right-wing accusations. We should know better, but decades of the drumbeat from the right (which has gone on without question or challenge from M$M) has done its damage.

(73,126 posts)mine rarely have lots of hits (I like to post pics of Hillary rallies which most of times get OK responses. Hillary folks (meaning the ones who generally post in HRC Group) are good at the REC (I take the opportunity to say Thank YOU)
Also--not a lot of good articles out there about Hillary--lots of articles seem to have negative slant or are about emails or Clinton foundation (except for good polls last week or so).. I do not post them and seldom respond to that type.

(4,187 posts)Not just in GD2016 but in real life as well. Personally, I don't get it. I find Trump boring. I find the entire Republican Party boring.
The other factor that contributes to the general nastiness on DU is that discussion boards seem to attract people who have some sort of need to vent their anger. I imagine that they have serious problems in their lives that they are unable to deal with directly, such as an abusive boss or a troubled relationship. So they come here and attack someone they've never met. And they do this because they know there will be no real consequences. As much as Skinner wants to make DU a place for civilized discussion, I think it's a lost cause because of the anonymity of internet discussion.

(4,309 posts)Some very pissed off people out there on the attack at all times. I think their problems are personal, not political.

(19,581 posts)I just keep waiting for the other shoe to drop that would possible give the election to Trump. I think we all have to still work, give and vote for Hillary Clnton.
