Cuba resolved to make headway in industrial development

CUBANEW/ACN
13 MAY 2024

HAVANA, Cuba, May 12 (ACN) At a meeting with Gerd Müller, director general of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel reasserted that industrial development is of paramount importance to the country and, therefore, included in the National Economic and Social Development Plan until 2030.

The Cuban leader gave his guest information about ongoing food and energy production projects and others in highly momentous sectors such as biotechnology, digital transformation and the circular economy. Likewise, he thanked ONUDI for its support, which he described as vital to improve the quality of life of the Cuban population and foster national development through the Country Programme for Cuba, an effective tool to promote Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development

“Despite the hardship caused by the U.S. blockade and the inclusion of Cuba on the list of alleged state sponsors of terrorism, we are resolved to keep making progress in the nation’s industrial development,” he stressed.

On his end, Mr. Müller—who said it was an honor to visit Cuba and be received by the President—ratified UNIDO’s willingness to maintain industrial and economic cooperation with the island on account of its value to UNIDO activity in the region.
