We had new kids in school from Cuba, new neighbors with grandma, grandpa, aunts, uncles, moms, dad n the kids all living together..and working for their American Dream. I remember those days. Some people opened their arms, some did not with the same rhetoric still being spewed about migrants today. The old Cuban folks dreamed of going back and were here for just a little while. I still do not understand why they fled an authoritarian regime only to have some of their communities supporting TSF today.

You mean the authoritarian regime that forced universal health care on the people that voted for it?

You mean the authoritarian regime that forced universal higher ed on the people that voted for it?

You mean the authoritarian regime that incorporated (by election) the ERA and UDHR into the constitution (the US is the only developed nation NOT to pass either)?

I do know of Cuba’s health care and research hospitals/universities which are world renowned. I am not Cuban nor am I a historian of the island nation. I only know what I have learned from friends who had family originally from Cuba. My first husband’s family had many tales to tell but they are all gone now so I can’t confirm what has been said. I will repeat my lack of understanding why anyone would support T* in this election..Cuban or not.

They received a wide range of extra perks that no other immigrant group ever got...

Instant work visa, instant access to Sec 8 housing with a $41,000 income exemption(authoritarian socialism?), instant access to Social Security and SSDI, many various low interest SBA loans for Cubans only, and lots more.

Sanctioning a nation into starvation, and them offering extra socialist programs just for them, and then blaming their gov't? Craven.

The Cuban immigrant experience is like no other immigrant experience.

How do I know? I am one.

But, the one party thing isn't a thing.

The communist party only holds about 15% of the seats in the National Assembly (the Cuban Parliament).

There are direct elections to municipal, provincial and national assemblies, the latter represent Cuba's parliament.

Electoral candidates are not chosen by small committees of political parties. No political party, including the Communist Party, is permitted to nominate or campaign for any given candidates.
