A thread voicing support for a new President Harris policy initiative regarding Cuba.

The old policies have only demonstrated that Cubans have solidarity with their system. No matter what the US throws at them as obstacles, they persevere.

Starving them and enacting policies aimed at impoverishing their economy has only hardened their support for their effective gov't - as their ability to deliver world class healthcare and higher education under austere conditions demonstrates.

Universal healthcare
Universal higher education
Ratification of the ERA as part of their constitution
Ratification of the UDHR as part of their constitution

Are these aforementioned policies part of the platform of goals for the Democratic Party here in the US? Or not?

I know we have more pressing domestic issues at hand, but, I hope and pray for some serious reevaluation of our cruel, inhumane treatment and collective punishment of an entire nation - our neighbors - that has done nothing to harm the USA.

Now, LET'S GO KAMALA HARRIS!

Unfortunately, there's many on both sides of the aisle who think that the "failure" of US/Cuba policy is that the US has not been able to topple the government of Cuba.

Successful US policy would be to let Cuba conduct business as it sees fit and most effectively - which by their own admissions would be normalized trade with the USA, as it used to be during the US backed brutal and blood-soaked Batista dictatorship.

All Cuba asks for, and has always asked for, is simply a level playing field.

Normalization would have multiple advantages for both countries.
Cuba has always sought this relationship.
It has been the US that has continued a non-productive relationship by continuing the collective punishment of an entire nation that has done the USA no harm.

Florida may be in play. Do it after the elections just to play it safe, I would say.

who said she has worked closely with Kamala Harris for many years, starting well before Vice President Harris went to Washington as a Senator. They were both members of California's state Congress, and earlier. As soon as I heard her, I immediately thought of Cuba, considering Barbara Lee has been to Cuba many times in an official capacity, even had lengthy conversations with Fidel Castro and had supported normalizing relations with Cuba in Washington for many years.

I realized if Kamala Harris has been close to Barbara Lee all these years, without a doubt, she already knows about Barbara Lee's thoughts and what she has learned about Cuba over the years and has had access to a real understanding of Cuba/US history from both sides, in addition to the absolutely vicious political war the hard right has conducted against the island all this time.

That's something to hope won't be forgotten.

Thanks, Marcus IM.
