The number of reported cases increased in at least 11 states compared to 2023, with significant growth in Paraíba, Amazonas, Amapá, and Tocantins. In Paraíba, the increase was 103.48%, rising from 575 to 1,170 cases during the period.
In a statement, the Amazonas Civil Police said the increase reflects the strengthening of police actions and the rise in reported cases. It also attributed the growth to the arrival of new officers, investigators, and clerks to work in rural regions.
Overall, the number of cases is likely higher, as São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Alagoas, and Roraima have not yet submitted December 2024 data. In 2023, 82,191 rapes were recorded in the system.
