A Brazilian hydrogen-powered boat will be presented at COP30, the UN climate change conference to be held in Belém (PA) in November.
The project is being developed by JAQ Apoio Marítimo (a unit of the Náutica group) in collaboration with the Itaipu Technological Park. The goal is for the Explorer H1 vessel to operate sustainably, with no pollutant emissions and carbon neutrality.

For this, the fuel supply must be done with green hydrogen. In this case, the electricity used to break the molecules and extract the gas must come from sustainable sources such as wind and solar energy.
According to JAQ, the vessels will have electrolyzers onboard that will produce the fuel cleanly to generate the energy to power the boats. This technology is developed by the Chinese manufacturer GWM, with investments estimated at 150 million reais.
