Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa arrived in Brazil on February 16, 2025, for a state visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations.

Accompanied by Prime Minister Luís Montenegro and ten ministers, the delegation’s agenda reflects the depth of the partnership between the two nations. The visit includes participation in the 14th Luso-Brazilian Summit.

It will address key areas such as trade, technology, health, and environmental cooperation. This event comes as both countries celebrate 200 years of diplomatic relations, underscoring their shared history and mutual interests.

Rebelo de Sousa began his trip in Recife, where he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Federal University of Pernambuco for his academic contributions. The delegation then traveled to Brasília for high-level meetings with Brazilian leaders.

These included President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and heads of Congress and the Supreme Court. These discussions aim to solidify agreements across sectors like education, science, and renewable energy.
