The country's Foreign Minister Joseph Andall confirmed the decision and notified the US authorities accordingly
GRENADA HAS rejected US President Donald Trump’s request to deport non-Grenadians to the Caribbean country.
Foreign Affairs Minister, Joseph Andall, confirmed Trump’s Administration made an official request to the Caribbean island’s government to accept people who are not Grenadians to be deported to the country. The Minister added that the offer has been refused, according to a report in the Jamaica Gleaner.
Speaking on a local radio programme, Andall said: “There was also a request for us to host nationals of third countries who may be deported, and unfortunately, we are not in a position to do that, and we have communicated that to the US authorities.” He also confirmed the country’s government received notification in January from the US Administration about the deportation of Grenadians.
In December, it was reported that several Caribbean nations rejected then-incoming President Trump’s proposal that deported migrants who are rejected by their home countries should be relocated to the region.
Deportation list
According to an NBC News report at the time, the incoming Trump administration is preparing a list of countries including Grenada, The Bahamas and Turks and Caicos which it may deport migrants when their home countries refuse to accept them. Since the report was published several Caribbean nations said they would reject the plans.
