I saw that this morning and was so sad. This brought me back to the 1980s and the bombings throughout Paris (you may be too young to remember them). And Charlie Hebdo was the paper of my youth.

Peace to Cabu, Wolinski and Tignous, wherever they are now, as well as to everybodyelse who were killed. (I just saw these names. It is some of most famous of this generation of satirical cartoonists that disappeared),

Byt I remember the ones in 1995. ..

Nice gesture from JK for his speech and of course the French speaking part.

Merci John Kerry et les Etats Unis de votre soutien.

Charlie Hebdo will live.

My daughter who is living in Paris now posted this link:

http://www.focusur.fr/actualites/2015/01/07/john-kerry-soutien-charlie-hebdo-dans-francais-video

It is his statement, in French, and lasts 2 min. 17 seconds.

Sorry if it is the same one, but looked different.

It is nice that the French part of the speech was shown in France. It does seem to make the US comments - which really can't be anything different than the horror expressed by all - more personal somehow. (here's a link to the comments that seems to work - http://www.state.gov/

It was interesting seeing a few articles across the country mentioning the 2004 nonsense - including this newsweek article - http://www.newsweek.com/after-paris-attack-kerrys-french-ties-dont-look-so-bad-297413

The western world is united in horror against these attacks. They really are as Kerry says an attack against civilization - attacking a beautiful city. Unspoken is that this really is something that the entire Western World is facing. I have heard that many Islamic countries and religious leaders have made statements condemning this action - and they ultimately may be more important than anything Obama or Kerry could say.

They need to, loudly and often. Helps drown out the right-wing belief that all Muslims are violent terrorists!
