(10,117 posts)...when he was asked about the biggest problem facing our country and he answered 'nuclear proliferation.'
This action today us a big step toward solving that problem.

(2,577 posts)I just felt awful that because of the idiocy of the Rethugs in the Senate, the talks were slowed, and JK's job was made so much more difficult.

(10,117 posts)...too. GOP actions have repeatedly made foreign policy harder. This time was the most blatant...even obvious to the general public...but it was not the first time their blunders have made the world more dangerous.
Kerry has been relentless in seeking a different path. We should all be very grateful. If this succeeds, we will owe it to JKs perseverance.

He is the best SoS -- and certainly the most courageous SoS -- I've seen in my lifetime.
Bravo, Bravo, Bravo.
This is a hard won day of victory -- even if there are days of hard work ahead. I have complete faith that he will insure that things remain on track.
There is something perfect that this happened in Switzerland right at this time of year. Spring, the season of renewal is the setting for Persian New Year, Easter and Passover. One (of many) themes of all of them is the renewal of the world.
With Switzerland, all I can think of is his beautiful letter quoted in Tour of Duty that spoke of how he used thoughts of the peaceful, beautiful nature of the area he went to school in - speaking of how he longed to be outside in the gorgeous weather instead of inside looking at algebra on the blackboard - to help him deal with life in the horrors of Vietnam. It is so nice that he will now have two memories of helping the world avoid violence from Switzerland - the Syrian chemical weapons deal in Geneva and this one.
With this framework, I hope that means that he and his family have the time to celebrate over Easter. (Wouldn't it be cool if Pope Francis mentions this and wishes them success in getting the final deal? )

In his Easter message, Pope Francis on Sunday praised the framework nuclear agreement with Iran while expressing deep worry about bloodshed in places such as Kenya, Iraq and Syria.
In his message on St. Peters Square, Francis noted the recent accord, reached in Lausanne, Switzerland, that aimed to ensure Iran doesnt develop a nuclear weapon.
In hope we entrust to the merciful Lord the framework recently agreed to in Lausanne, that it may be a definitive step toward a more secure and fraternal world, he said in his message.
I bet hearing this made Easter extra special for JK and Teresa.
YvonneCa
(10,117 posts)...it did.
I am sure Pope Francis...being a man of peace himself...easily sees that trait in JK as well.

(9,688 posts)The timing IS perfect on so many levels.
Yeah, I hope he gets props from Papa Francesco, too. : )
In any case, I agree with YvonneCa that he's got to be pleased.
All that Republican frothing and complaining -- pathetic. (And, BTW, shame also on Dems like Howard Dean, Menendez and Schumer(Richardson, too, I think) for suggesting few days ago that Obama and Kerry should walk away from the table.BOO)

(59,936 posts)For some reason he is a big advocate of MEK.
Dean's foreign policy never was really asked in 2004. Other than Trippi arguing he was the only antiwar candidate. All based on that vote of Kerry's
In 2006, he was not for Kerry/Feingold. He supported the Korb plan.
Living in Burlington, I did meet him. He was nice but he seemed like any politician. Absolutely nowhere near Kerry any time I saw him. I was more impressed by former governor Madeline Kunin and the current mayor Weinberger .
