(59,942 posts)It would be sad at any time, but he is so needed right now, though it would seem he could continue to be involved remotely - especially on the Iran negotiations where he knows all the players. Matt viser, Boston Globe, had an interesting twitter comment. They could move the negotiations to Boston.
It is interesting to consider. He posted that Moniz lives in Brookline.

(9,688 posts)suggests that one reason Kerry stayed overnight in Geneva was to allow his Boston surgeon to get there and accompany him on the plane flight back to Boston. .
It is unclear how severe the fracture is and how long it will take for Kerry to recover. It can take four to six months for a broken femur to fully heal, according to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. The femur, also known as the thighbone, is the longest and strongest bone in the body, and it usually takes significant force to break it.
Although Kerry would be on crutches or in a wheelchair during a signing ceremony with Iran if there is one its not a situation the man with a lifetime of sports injuries hasnt confronted before. In 2012, he showed up for a ceremony at the White House with two black eyes and a broken nose, the result of having been struck in the face with a hockey stick. Kerry is a longtime cyclist who frequents Belmont Wheelworks for repairs on his titanium Serotta Ottrott. He uses it for exercise, to clear his head, and, at times, to conduct deals. In 2010, when then-Senator Scott Brown was indecisive on whether to support a financial regulatory overhaul, Kerry took him on a 40-mile bike ride where they came to terms. As secretary of state, he often travels with his bike, and he usually has a stationary bike in his hotel room. He has done the 111-mile Pan Mass Challenge about a dozen times.

to Secretary Kerry and Momma T (hope she and the family are doing well these days).
Hope he can get some rest and still play his role (small, medium?) in the Iran negotiating deal He seemed to have some momentum going before his happened.
Wonder if he or his doctor will think of yoga or some other non-contact exercise that will help in his recovery.
That said, hope everyone still here is doing well. Peace.
edit for clarity

(9,688 posts)According to State Dept today, Kerry was up at 4:30 am to participate remotely in ISIL conference
(just before his surgery. Seriously, the guy is unstoppable )
And this just in from NECN (local Boston cable news). Excellent that he didn't have to have general anesthesia, and that the repair was straightforward:

"I anticipate a short hospitalization, a full and complete recovery, and a return to normal function," Burke added. "I do not anticipate that this will interfere with his duties as Secretary of State."
Way to go, Sec. Kerry!
