and won't burn down the house? We've had it with the "flaming toaster syndrome".

(59,440 posts)I just bought a Hamilton Beach toaster oven. It rules. I think I paid $39 on sale. It may have been $49.

(2,282 posts)I've got it on a switchable power strip because the last one we owned had an electrical fire when it wasn't even on.
Also when I used a plastic scrubby on it the numbers rubbed off. We now have to guess at the time and temps.

(22,845 posts)I went through many years of malfunctioning toasters and toaster ovens.
Last year we replaced a decent DeLonghi toaster oven that finally kicked the bucket after several years of good performance.
This time we went for a Cuisinart combination toaster oven/convection oven, after reading lots of reviews and ratings.
It is a little bit complicated to figure out at first, but it works well, seems very accurate and is very easy to clean.

(31,464 posts)We've totally replaced our real oven...we just store pots and pans in it. In its place we bought a Kitchenaid countertop combo convection oven. It'll bake two 12" pizzas, or roast a 5' chicken...and it does toast and waffles. Great oven! Might not be what you're looking for, but the extra electricity savings over your full-size oven might make it worthwhile.

(30,947 posts)but I bought a small Elite toaster oven at my local Kroger here in North Georgia for only $3.90. I was a manger's special. It works great, since I only cook enough for one and bake small amounts in it. But I have put a good-sized piece of salmon into it and it baked to perfection. My local Kroger has some really fantastic manager's specials. I bought a pair of Pajama Jeans for only $3.99. A week before that I had ordered a pair online and they were $39.99. So keep your eye out for specials in your local supermarket.

(2,166 posts)has been working for 2-3 years. BUT, I only heat up meals in it (pizza slices, grilled cheese, etc.) It's kind of flimsy, and I don't dare cook anything else in it. I also unplug it from the wall when I'm finished using it (can never be too safe with these things).
