Upon which components were updated.

If not reliable brands, then repairs might be frequent & data could be lost.

And depends upon the person or company offering this.

I move around a lot so they take a lot of abuse. So I often go for a cheaper refurbished one. It has worked out well for me.

But depends on the application. If you mostly do web browsing /email/word then even a 5 year old computer will do. If you are doing scientific calculations for NASA, image processing or streaming and video rendering you will get frustrated quickly. Also if you are a gamer, then you will eventually need an expensive graphics card too to satisfy your itch.

I get them from Newegg. They are great. Check out the seller and who did the refurb.

But I've never had a problem. Great deals. Great computers.

I never get a warranty, but all mine have lasted (this one is 4 years old and still perfect). My other one is fine, I retired it because I wanted something faster. So, I never needed a repair.

I have a refurbished Apple Mac Pro laptop that was less than a year old when I bought it from Apple. This thing has to be at least...5 years old, if not more, and except for replacing the battery last year, it’s going fine.

I think the key is to buy it from the company, not like, Amazon or eBay.

Here is how I look at it, in a normal production line, 1 out of 10 products may be Quality Checked with any diligence, but I wouldn't think any business will sell a refurb product without a diligent QC check. That's my take and I haven't had any problems with refurb.

And what are the specs? I wouldn’t if it was older than around 3 years unless it was pretty powerful.

As long as you do not need the latest technology they work just fine. I currently have a desktop PC and printer that are refurbished and they meet my needs. My granddaughter has told me the PC does not have what she needs to play the latest games on it but I use it for Quicken and paying bills so I’m happy with what they do.

I've kind of been stuck getting their enterprise laptops for the past 10 years or so and the discount on the older models is 1/10 the price of new. A 2-3 year old HP elitebook sells for anywhere from $250-450 and they have been just fine for my needs.

YMMV...but refurbs are fine in my opinion.
