Southern Democrats or "Momma told me not to come" (3 Dog Night)

What's all these crazy questions they askin' me
This is the craziest party there could ever be
Don't turn on the lights, 'cause I don't want to see
Not only do we have former Republicans running as Democrats, we have Democrats running from being Democrats!
In the South, the Democratic Party is in shambles. Florida and Alabama have Charlie Crist and Parker Griffith, Republicans are now the only ones who can beat Republicans!
Then there is the classic Southern Democrat who is actually very clear in identifying as a social and fiscal conservative (anywhere else a Republican). The following is an actual campaign ad for the Democratic candidate Joe Hubbard for Alabama Attorney General, a southern state, arguably the reddest state in America.

First, "My opponent is trying to convince you that I'm some kind of liberal. The truth, I'm pro-life, pro-gun, and pro-family."
Second, I don't think anywhere in the ad is there an acknowledgement that Joe Hubbard is running as a Democrat.
Third, law and order candidate is always the Republican meat and potatoes. Besides denying being a liberal, he could be a Republican?
So, if these are our candidates, what does it say about our Party? What does it say about the southern Democratic voter? How do our candidates get a real Democrat to vote for them, if this is the choice?
And would you believe Joe Hubbard is a good Democrat?

(13,710 posts)is a JOKE. Not just a mess, a joke.
The only reason Crist is running is because Rick Scott is in, the only reason a man like Rick Scott ran is because Alex Sink spent too much time running from Obama.
And frankly, if this were the Soviet Union, I would have sent Debbie Wasserman Schultz to Siberia a long long time ago.
You see, the Florida Democratic party has taken the job of being the competent right wing, which allows the GOP to put up people that would not be allowed outside of a mental asylum.

(16,104 posts)In the last year or two, we had the white wing (yes, white, not right) of the Alabama Democratic Party break off and form Alabama Democratic Majority because of the disarray of the recent elections and the "undue" influence of the black caucus. The Alabama Democratic Majority has ceased to exist as anything but a website as they discovered they weren't the majority of Democrats without black Alabamians?
Most Alabama political pundits expect it will be several cycles before the Republicans will screw it all up, be held accountable, and the pendulum swings back again.
Meanwhile, the car wreck rolls on.
