http://olympics.yardbarker.com/blog/olympics/article/stephanie_rice_used_a_stripper_pole_in_her_home_to_train/11394808Australian swimmer Stephanie Rice sparked some pre-Olympics buzz by tweeting the picture seen above of her modeling a bikini designed by a friend. Now we're learning what training methods -- aside from swimming -- Rice utilized to keep her figure fit.
During a radio interview with "The Hot Breakfast" on Triple M radio in Melbourne, Rice confirmed a rumor that she had a stripper pole in her apartment.
"I did do some classes and I made one of my family members buy me the pole because I was, like, well this can be cross-training exercise," Rice told the radio station.
"But I don't have it any more," she clarified.
Oh noes.....boycott, and re-educate! Clearly this young woman needs help!

(10,129 posts)Actually, my wife recently took some pole dancing classes... she said it was one of the best workout routines she`s ever done, especially for the "core" muscles. And while their recital was somewhat sensual, the dances were a beautiful display of grace and athleticism as well.

(6,801 posts)being proud of her body. Which means she didn't really consent to this picture. Which means anyone looking at it is basically a peeping tom, probably a rapist too.
Real women hate the way they look and are ashamed of their appearance.

(9,709 posts)if we can find one..they appear to be swiftly becoming an endangered species, particularly outside of DU.
How dare this woman be proud of her body and sexuality. I mean, doesn't she realize that agents of the "patriarchy" are gazing upon her with lust in their hearts?
She needs to be reeducated with 2nd wave dogma ...sex is bad, mkay?

(6,036 posts)It's not the Pole that is Patriarchal but the idea that only Women can work-out with it and that women do it for men's entertainment. Same is true for belly dancing. Either sex can do it and it's not provocative, sexual, exploitative if it's done for personal exercise without an audience.

(110,159 posts)for them, handing over her sexuality.
look at the posts on this thread. this woman puts on a two piece cause her friend made it.
that is all
now, read the posts from the men who flip it to her sexuality and it is ALL about entertaining them.
yes
there is a difference.

(16,399 posts)I've seen no one here asking to be "entertained" by her. Really fucking offensive when you lie like this.

(10,129 posts)Wrong again....she put on a two piece suit because her friend made it, and then took a picture of herself wearing it and posted it on her public twitter account, pretty much seeking an audience, which your buddy there claims is somehow mens` fault.

(80,708 posts)And then, people look at it, and admire it.
And everyone is happy, except the people whom the whole exchange invariably pisses off.

(110,159 posts)oh wait... whomever made shit up for this thread.
a woman wears a two piece a friend made and shows it off.
wow.... horrible.
you men on the thread made her into your little sex toy and them gave it to other women. your creation of make believe.

(80,708 posts)And I do think you're way off into projection-land.
Do you understand how twitter works?
4th law of robotics
(6,801 posts)if they find her attractive?
Something that doesn't involve turning her in to a sex toy, in your words. Or objectifying her. Or committing ocular rape.
I understand if you can't come up with an answer.
ProudToBeBlueInRhody
(16,399 posts)The three-time Olympic gold medalist has been slammed for posting the "racy" picture. Rice suffered backlash on Twitter from fans, one follower under the name @allyouzombies going as far as to say she "has brought disgrace to the australian swim team and she should be dropped."
While critics have slammed the shot, others are coming to the swimmer's defense. Designer Ellie Gonsalves posted a photograph of herself on Twitter wearing the sexy suit.
Sounds like the only folks with a problem were fellow prudes.

(80,708 posts)apparently want to hear.
That's part of the reason I shut down the other thread; because in addition to the fact that in my searches of DU2 I saw the ground had been extensively covered already, but also because it's incredibly apparent that, on a topic like that, if you do anything BUT NNYD to the whole thing, immediately you're, you know, defending elevator rape. And- this is rich- apparently just a "split hair away" from being an elevator rapist, yourself.
So, fuck that noise. I mean, really, enough. So my final words are in that thread if anyone cares to ACTUALLY read my thoughts on the subject; because time and time again, it has been proven that if this group does something like have universal agreement on a statement like "Daniel Tosh's rape joke was not okay", someone will immediately be off in another corner of DU saying
"WHY ARE THEY JUSTIFYING DANIEL TOSH'S RAPE JOKE IN THE MENS GROUP???"

again... read your OP and the article you posted and then claimed outrage. now you provide an article with more garbage. i was making a statement to your actual OP you posted. go figure.

(6,801 posts)then it was pointed out that other people were indeed pissed off about this picture.
Can you acknowledge that your statement was incorrect in light of empirical evidence showing it to be false?

(16,399 posts)What does the slur have to do with what you're babbling about? You went from "defending" her to slamming her now?
She uses a stripper pole as a training tool, and I satirized it, minus any demand to watch her perform or making any sexual comments about her. I didn't even post that picture.
I suppose if I wanted to get over satirically with you, I should have advocated mass murder or castration or something.

(80,708 posts)What if they LIKE entertaining, or even -gasp!- turning on other people?
What then?
Oh, right, they're not allowed to, or they don't *really* like to; they've just been brainwashed to think they do.
And nowhere, anywhere, does it say only women can work out with a pole.
