You kids! Your mom and I can't leave for one evening without you making a mess!
Okay, if everyone wants to change the SOP of the group to be expressly a safe haven group, I'm okay with that.
However, I think we should consider what changes that will bring... which in my view is not much. Safe haven group hosts have the ability to not only lock posts which are inconsistent with the group's SOP (in the case of this group, as broadly defined as possible "issues of interest to men"
, but also to manage a membership list. Challenging and controversial viewpoints are not necessarily in conflict with the SOP.

It appears that hosts of this group already do have the ability to block individuals from the group, so I think that it actually was set up as a safe haven group.

In my view, the fact that no one has yet been blocked from posting here suggests that people coming to the group to disrupt isn't a primary problem. The current problem is passive-aggressive complaints about the group in OTHER protected groups by people who neither read nor participate.
Is the expectation is that the group host is omniscient enough to proactively exclude posters who might subsequently say something embarrassing?... I think it's unrealistic.
In short, the nature of this group wouldn't have affected the H&M unpleasantness one way or another. "Safe" may be a bit misleading in that sense. Controversy attended the creation of this group. The admins were under a great deal of pressure to disallow it. It is unsurprising to me that the critics haven't given up.
Oh, and thanks for volunteering Warren. You're hired.
