men, acted like complete asshats about it. It was slavery, interfered with their freedom, etc. Same shit as today, but it wasn't necessarily connected with a political party. What's happening now is that these opinions are WELDED to the political parties because they aren't just individual opinions any more -- they're propaganda talking points devised to rile people up and to emotionally control them.

I'm old like you, Sherman, and I remember it well. Same thing happened with motorcycle helmet laws.
