apparently shows food inflation causing consumers to delay purchases in other goods. I saw rapid $10, 50 and 100 dollar increases on computers in the first quarter in my local store, also refurbed cell phones that went from about $95 to 144 to 174 and none are available. And then rapid, repeated increases in food. So as sales plummeted in non-food items, were they attempting to make up the revenue on food? That's what I suspect.

Also they made massive hires, the stores crawling with new, slow and marginal employees picking items for pickup or delivery.

I am finding far lower food prices in off-price retailers. Walmart and the luxury grocer prices went up big time, but discounters not so much. I found whole wheat flour this week at $2.79 for the 5 pound sack. Walmart? $4.38 last I looked. Now I ask you - who has low prices? Pay less, live better?

Target the same thing, and they are really in the tank today. WMT was down about 12% yesterday, TGT down 21% pre-market.

I haven't set foot in a Walmart store in 20+ years; and I'm not sure when I last went to Target, but that's only because I don't need anything there.
